Details

The Applied Engineering team works across research, engineering, product, and design to bring OpenAI’s technology to consumers and businesses. The cloud infrastructure team is responsible for the core infrastructure supporting products such as ChatGPT and the API, including Kubernetes clusters, infrastructure deployment, networking, cloud abstractions, and related systems.

The team builds and maintains infrastructure abstractions that enable products to be shipped quickly and scalably. This role is exclusively based at OpenAI’s San Francisco headquarters and includes participation in an on-call rotation to respond to critical incidents as needed.

Responsibilities

Design and build development and production platforms that power OpenAI products, enabling reliability and security at scale.
Ensure infrastructure can scale to the next order of magnitude.
Build and operate scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to critical incidents.
Help create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture that enables radical candor and challenges groupthink.

Requirements

5+ years of experience building core infrastructure.
Experience operating orchestration systems such as Kubernetes at scale.
Experience building abstractions over cloud platforms.
Pride in building and operating scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
Comfort with ambiguity and rapid change.

Compensation And Benefits

Base salary range of $230,000–$490,000 per year.
