Details

Anthropic is seeking experienced software engineers to join its Platform organization, which builds foundational primitives, infrastructure, and systems that enable reliable product development and operation at scale. Engineers will independently scope complex, multi-month projects, drive cross-organizational alignment, make architectural decisions, partner with research to productize advanced capabilities, and shape the platform used by internal engineers and hundreds of thousands of external users and companies.

Team placement occurs after the interview process based on candidate interests and experience alongside organizational needs.

Responsibilities

Potential areas of work include:

  • Service Infrastructure: Build and maintain service mesh, observability systems, deployment pipelines, shared libraries, and infrastructure for reliable services at scale.
  • Platform Portability: Develop cloud-agnostic tooling, cross-cloud networking, and multi-region deployment infrastructure across multiple cloud providers.
  • Platform Intelligence: Build and scale the foundation of the Claude API, focusing on serving-path performance, reliability, and efficiency in partnership with inference and safeguards teams.
  • Connectivity: Develop MCP proxy infrastructure, OAuth and token management, enterprise administration controls, multi-tenant platforms, API gateways, and the official Python and TypeScript SDKs. Contribute to the MCP specification.
  • Billing Platform: Build production-critical systems for pricing, usage accounting, paid product integration contracts, quote-to-cash automation, reconciliation, and revenue data foundations.
  • Sandboxing: Build secure, fast, and reliable containerized execution environments for untrusted code, web browsing, and computer-use capabilities.
  • Platform Serving: Develop systems that securely connect Claude to user data and process and retrieve relevant knowledge.
  • Agentic Systems: Build infrastructure and APIs for tool use, multi-step reasoning, durable sessions and environments, and long-running tasks, including Claude Managed Agents.
  • Auth and Identity: Develop authentication, authorization, role-based access control, single sign-on, and identity-management systems.
  • Platform Distribution: Build cloud-native, managed Claude API deployments across cloud providers and Anthropic infrastructure, including enterprise security, compliance, and operational capabilities.
  • Platform Safety: Build identity and verification systems for KYC/KYB, trust grant issuance and inheritance, and end-user verification.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems, ideally at a technical-lead level or equivalent.
  • Experience with distributed systems, cloud-native products, developer tools, or external developer-facing products.
  • Strong fundamentals in service-oriented architecture, networking, and systems design.
  • Experience owning the technical vision and end-to-end execution of foundational platform systems.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems languages.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure such as GCP, AWS, or Azure; Kubernetes; and/or multi-cloud networking.
  • Ability to take ownership from design through deployment and operations.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and make independent technical decisions in both early-stage and mature environments.
  • A product-focused approach to building robust, scalable, easy-to-use platform solutions.
  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The field of study must be relevant to the role through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Benefits

Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and an office environment for collaboration. The company currently expects staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.

Visa sponsorship is available, although successful sponsorship cannot be guaranteed for every role or candidate. Anthropic retains an immigration lawyer and will make reasonable efforts to obtain a visa if an offer is made.
