Details
Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. This is a 12-week summer 2027 internship. Interns will help build the next generation of crypto-forward products and features, solving large-scale technical problems at the intersection of web-scale applications and blockchain technology while shipping production code that impacts millions of users.
Following the hybrid internship, any full-time return opportunity would be remote-first.
Internship Teams
Product Group Teams — San Francisco
- Base: Create integrations, fiat onramps, and developer tools on Coinbase's Ethereum L2 network.
- Consumer: Build Coinbase retail and wallet apps, advanced trading, dApps, and staking experiences.
- Developer: Develop Coinbase Developer Platform infrastructure, including Payments, Wallets, Trading, and Stablecoin APIs.
- Institutional: Build systems for financial institutions to custody digital assets, stake, and participate in the crypto economy.
- Platform: Create scalable, compliant foundational systems for Identity, FinHub, Payments, Blockchain, and Infrastructure.
Core Teams — New York City
- Security: Build solutions for security, compliance, and privacy needs, including the Workforce IAM Platform and security oversight tooling.
- Enterprise Engineering: Develop platforms that enhance customer support, internal tools, and compliance through automation and customer-focused engineering.
Responsibilities
- Write high-quality, well-tested code that ships to production and directly impacts Coinbase customers.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to turn technical and product vision into delivered features.
- Participate in code reviews and provide and receive feedback to improve team quality.
- Own a defined project end-to-end, from scoping through implementation and launch, during the 12-week internship.
- Learn and apply crypto and blockchain concepts to real engineering problems in a production environment.
Requirements
- Programming experience in any language through academic work, personal projects, or professional experience.
- Ability to break down ambiguous problems into concrete implementation steps.
- Familiarity with at least one of web development, mobile development, backend systems, or infrastructure.
- Ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots, such as LibreChat, Gemini, and Glean, with human oversight.
- Ability to apply human-in-the-loop practices to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
Compensation
The target hourly rate is $60 USD, depending on work location.
