Glean is seeking a Backend/Infrastructure Engineer to build and evolve the Storage layer that powers a highly available, performant, secure, and cost-effective suite of storage options for all company data. The role will own storage systems handling sensitive data, including enterprise documents, permission hierarchies, user behavioral signals, and real-time query-path data. This infrastructure supports millions of searches, chat interactions, and agent workflows across multiple cloud providers.

Responsibilities

• Own impactful infrastructure problems from inception and architecture through production launch.
• Design, build, and operate storage systems with robust uptime guarantees, autoscaling, reliable alerting, and monitoring.
• Write thoughtful design documents and robust, high-quality, well-tested code.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize impactful roadmap projects.
• Abstract cloud-provider differences and reduce human intervention through self-healing systems.
• Support workloads across Glean's infrastructure and drive reliability, scalability, and business impact.
• Mentor more junior engineers and learn from experienced engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience.
• BA/BS in Computer Science or a related degree.
• Experience working on infrastructure for distributed systems or cloud-native applications.
• Experience with storage systems such as databases, object stores, or distributed file systems.
• Strong coding skills in one or more languages such as Go, Python, Java, or C++.
• Experience designing for reliability and scale and writing well-tested components.
• Customer-focused, collaborative, proactive, and willing to take ownership of both small tasks and large features.
• Familiarity with cloud-native development practices in GCP, AWS, or Azure is a plus.
• Candidates will complete a brief AI-focused exercise or discussion during the interview process.

Location

• Hybrid role requiring four days per week in the Mountain View office.

Compensation And Benefits

• Standard base salary range: $140,000–$265,000 annually.
