Details

Grafana Labs is hiring a remote Software Engineer to join the Synthetic Monitoring squad. The team builds and operates Grafana Cloud Synthetic Monitoring, a multi-tenant distributed system used to verify critical user journeys, APIs, and services. The system is implemented in Go, runs on Kubernetes across AWS, GCP, and Azure, and executes billions of synthetic tests each month from global and customer-operated private probes.

The role is full-stack, covering backend services, execution pipelines, telemetry, APIs, and user-facing workflows in Grafana Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Own features end-to-end, from API and data model design in Go through execution pipelines and TypeScript/React user workflows.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions involving scheduling, probe lifecycle, telemetry ingestion, and API design.
  • Build cross-product and AI-assisted workflows connecting Synthetic Monitoring with the wider Grafana Cloud platform.
  • Develop governance and organization primitives for enterprise-scale Synthetic Monitoring operations.
  • Break down complex and ambiguous problems into incremental deliverables and iterate based on feedback.
  • Ensure quality through testing, system observability, and documentation.
  • Participate in the team's on-call rotation and take ownership of operated services.
  • Use AI coding assistants for prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, code review, and engineering workflows while maintaining strong security and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Strong Go experience, or a path to Go based on production backend experience in Rust, Java, C++, or another systems language.
  • Experience owning and operating production services, including understanding on-call responsibilities, reliability, and toil reduction.
  • Systems-thinking skills, including reasoning about data flow, failure modes, cost, and operational behavior.
  • Ability to work pragmatically with short feedback loops, design solutions, build prototypes, and work independently.
  • Understanding of user-centered software development processes.
  • Ability to communicate design decisions clearly in written and spoken English.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in a remote-first company.
  • Familiarity with AI tools as part of an engineering workflow.

Technologies

  • Go
  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Kubernetes
  • AWS, GCP, and Azure
  • k6
  • Grafana ecosystem, including Mimir, Loki, and Prometheus

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience designing or operating multi-tenant SaaS systems at scale.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, or Sentry.
  • Production Kubernetes experience.
  • Familiarity with k6, Playwright, or browser automation at scale.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects.

Benefits

  • Equity and bonus, if applicable.
  • 100% remote global culture.
  • Company-funded usage budget for AI coding assistants.
  • In-person onboarding.
  • 30 days of annual leave per annum, including three Grafana Shutdown Days, subject to local legislation.
  • Career growth pathways and an open-source, transparent, collaborative culture.
