Software Engineer - Synthetic Monitoring

Grafana Labs is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Synthetic Monitoring squad. The team builds and operates Grafana Cloud Synthetic Monitoring, a multi-tenant distributed system implemented in Go and running on Kubernetes across AWS, GCP, and Azure. The product executes billions of synthetic tests each month from global probe locations and customer-operated private probes.

The role is full-stack, covering backend services and agents in Go, a TypeScript/React frontend, scheduling, probe lifecycle, telemetry ingestion, API design, and user-facing workflows. The team is focused on integrating Synthetic Monitoring with Grafana Cloud, enabling AI-assisted workflows, and supporting enterprise-scale deployments.

Responsibilities

• Own features end-to-end across the stack, from Go API and data model design through execution pipelines and TypeScript/React user workflows.
• Contribute to architectural decisions involving scheduling, probe lifecycle, telemetry ingestion, and API design.
• Build cross-product and AI-assisted workflows connecting Synthetic Monitoring to Grafana Cloud.
• Develop governance and organization primitives for enterprise-scale management of checks as code.
• Break complex, ambiguous problems into incremental deliverables and iterate based on feedback.
• Ensure quality through testing, system observability, and documentation.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and take ownership of production services.

Technologies

• Go for backend services, APIs, and the synthetic monitoring agent.
• TypeScript and React for the Synthetic Monitoring application.
• Kubernetes across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• k6 as the execution engine for scripted and browser checks.
• Grafana ecosystem technologies including Mimir, Loki, and Prometheus.
• AI coding assistants and frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.

Requirements

• Comfortable working in a remote-first company with strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Collaborative, respectful, and able to contribute to discussions, disagree constructively, and commit to team decisions.
• Strong Go experience or experience with production backend systems in another systems language such as Rust, Java, or C++.
• Experience operating production services, participating in on-call rotations, and reducing operational toil.
• Systems-thinking skills, including reasoning about data flow, failure modes, cost, and operational behavior.
• A pragmatic approach focused on short feedback loops, incremental delivery, prototyping, and independent work.
• Understanding of user-centered software development processes.
• Comfortable using AI tools for engineering workflows such as exploration, code review, and design reasoning.

Bonus Points

• Experience designing or operating multi-tenant SaaS systems at scale.
• Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, or Sentry.
• Production Kubernetes experience.
• Familiarity with k6, Playwright, or browser automation at scale.
• Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects.

Compensation And Benefits

• Base compensation in Spain: EUR 65,000–81,000 per year.
