About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
As a Staff Forward Deploy Engineer, you will work at the intersection of SentinelOne customers and product engineering. You will split your time between customer engineering teams and SentinelOne codebases, shipping integrations, fixes, and platform improvements across products including the data pipeline, Singularity Data Lake, and EventDB, a highly scalable columnar database ingesting petabytes of data per day.
You will work directly with customers to understand their environments, translate ambiguous requirements into shipped solutions, and build integrations, customizations, and upstream product contributions. The role involves owning customer engagements end-to-end, leading technically across unfamiliar codebases and complex problem spaces, and collaborating with engineers, technical leads, architects, product management, sales, and customer executive stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Develop full-stack software, primarily using React and Java, to address customer requirements and product gaps.
- Write robust tests, resolve bugs, and maintain high standards for code security and quality.
- Partner with customers and field teams to understand environments, goals, and constraints, translating ambiguous requests into clear technical strategies.
- Design and deliver integrations connecting SentinelOne products to customer environments, often alongside customer engineers.
- Create runbooks, integration documentation, knowledge-transfer materials, and executive-level technical communications.
- Contribute fixes and improvements to the core platform and build tooling that scales repeatable Forward Deploy patterns.
- Architect end-to-end solutions spanning multiple codebases and owning teams; document trade-offs and implementation details.
- Review technical specifications and code, with a focus on quality, security, efficiency, and maintainability.
- Mentor Senior Forward Deploy Engineers and help establish standards for engagement scoping and delivery.
- Respond to ad hoc customer and internal escalations; there is no regular on-call rotation.
- Collaborate with colleagues through team syncs, Slack standups, and constructive feedback.
Requirements
- Solid computer science background and 6+ years of engineering experience, including backend and frontend development.
- Proven expertise designing and operating distributed systems or data-intensive services.
- Experience leading substantial work end-to-end under ambiguity and with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working directly with customers or senior stakeholders to shape technical solutions.
- Deep proficiency in at least one production programming language; Java is strongly preferred, with 5+ years of experience preferred.
- Working comfort with at least one additional programming language.
- Experience or willingness to work with modern Java, React, TypeScript, Kafka, Redis, GraphQL, Node.js, and SentinelOne's platform.
- Understanding of distributed-systems concepts, including CAP theorem trade-offs and data-structure selection.
- Cybersecurity experience is strongly preferred, including SIEM, EDR/XDR, log pipelines, detection engineering, or threat hunting.
- Ability to become productive quickly in unfamiliar codebases and lead others through similar work.
- Ability to communicate precisely with engineers, customers, executives, sales, and product teams.
- Strong written communication skills for tickets, design documents, customer runbooks, and executive briefings.
- Commitment to mentorship, practical problem-solving, and delivering well-considered solutions efficiently.
Benefits
- Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) and Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
- Flexible time off, paid company holidays and sick time, gender-neutral parental leave, and grandparent leave.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with company match; life and disability insurance; health and dependent care FSA.
- Voluntary benefits, Employee Assistance Program, prepaid legal services, pet insurance, Cancer Care program, and global business travel medical insurance.
- Home office allowance and mobile phone reimbursement.
- Wellness coach, wellness or gym reimbursement, fertility coverage, and adoption and surrogacy reimbursement.
