Details
Data Products integrates GitLab and third-party SDLC data and builds dashboards, APIs, and data products that provide trusted, interoperable intelligence for customers and internal teams.
This is a foundational engineering role on a new 0-to-1 team. The engineer will provide technical leadership through ambiguity, help determine what to build, make foundational design decisions, keep delivery moving, and own the full lifecycle of shipped systems.
Responsibilities
- Architect how GitLab and third-party data is ingested, modeled, and synchronized into a near-real-time knowledge graph of the development ecosystem.
- Lead integrations with external systems for business context, including Jira, observability tools, Zendesk, and ServiceNow.
- Architect the Data Marketplace so customers can consume GitLab data through Snowflake, Databricks, and BigQuery without engineering dependencies.
- Publish GitLab observability as OpenTelemetry and broker data-sharing APIs.
- Define operational readiness for systems shipped across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed deployments.
- Translate an ambiguous 0-to-1 problem space into concrete, iterative roadmaps in partnership with Product, Design, and the graph backend team.
- Resolve cross-team dependencies across graph backend, AI Platform, and Infrastructure.
- Mentor senior and intermediate engineers through design reviews, pairing, and code review.
- Identify systemic bottlenecks, simplify processes, and design systems that improve execution velocity.
Requirements
- Proven ability to influence as a Staff engineer while owning product or platform systems end to end across multiple engineering and product teams.
- High agency, including finding owners, clarifying paths, making decisions, and driving work to completion.
- Ability to act as a force multiplier for people and codebases.
- Deep full-stack expertise with strong proficiency in Go, Ruby, and Node.js.
- Depth in at least one of the following: analytics and metrics platforms, graph data systems, CDC, or warehouse integration.
- Hands-on experience building production AI-powered tool orchestration.
- Experience operating multi-tenant systems across SaaS and self-managed deployments.
- Strong communication and ability to build alignment across teams.
- Willingness to document decisions and make reasoning clear.
Team Areas
- Dashboard and Reporting Framework: AI-native dashboard components for engineering health, DORA, VSA, AI Impact, SDLC trends, security, and quality, including custom dashboards.
- Internal Ingestion: Third-party data ingestion and connectors for systems such as Jira, Zendesk, ServiceNow, and observability tools, enabling a queryable, near-real-time graph of the developer ecosystem.
- External Ingestion: Marketplace listings, data-sharing APIs and SDKs, and co-branded partner products that make GitLab and Knowledge Graph data available outside the product.
Salary
The United States base salary range is $152,800–$259,200 USD per year. The range does not include bonuses, equity, or benefits.
Benefits
- Benefits supporting health, finances, and well-being
- Flexible paid time off
- Team Member Resource Groups
- Equity compensation and employee stock purchase plan
- Growth and Development Fund
- Parental leave
