Details

GitLab is an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps that helps organizations improve developer productivity, operational efficiency, security, compliance, and digital transformation. GitLab expects team members to incorporate AI into their daily workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Define a clear direction for software planning as development shifts toward collaboration between people and artificial intelligence agents.
  • Shape how users capture intent, break it into actionable work, and determine which work can proceed autonomously versus requiring human involvement.
  • Evaluate whether and how planning should connect software delivery to company priorities, business objectives, and budgets.
  • Share ownership of planning capabilities, including work items, boards, specifications, and portfolio planning, with another product manager.
  • Help define the division of product ownership within the planning area.
  • Work with engineering and design to translate product direction into a roadmap and improve planning workflows across GitLab.
  • Communicate recommendations clearly to senior leaders, challenge assumptions constructively, and lead the team through changes in direction.
  • Develop a point of view on the future of planning and turn it into product decisions with engineering, design, and product leadership.

Requirements

  • Experience leading product strategy and execution for software development, developer tools, or planning products.
  • Strong understanding of software development and development and operations (DevOps) workflows, including how planning decisions affect downstream delivery.
  • Ability to form and defend a product point of view in an uncertain and changing market while remaining open to different ideas.
  • Clear communication skills with technical teams and senior executives, including experience constructively challenging leadership decisions and building support for a direction.
  • Ability to connect forward-looking strategy to practical product decisions and collaborate across product, engineering, and design.
  • Experience making decisions in a specialized product area and influencing decisions beyond the immediate product scope.

The role is being opened at Staff level, with flexibility to consider Principal level based on experience and scope of impact. The Planning team builds work items, boards, specifications, and portfolio planning capabilities at the beginning of GitLab's software development workflow.

Benefits

  • Benefits supporting health, finances, and well-being
  • Flexible paid time off
  • Team member resource groups
  • Equity compensation and employee stock purchase plan
  • Growth and development fund
  • Parental leave
