Staff / Senior Software Engineer, Security Fusion Platform

Anthropic's Data Center Security Engineering team owns physical security across its data center footprint, including sites, hardware, and supply chain. The Security Fusion Platform correlates physical security signals and presents them to analysts for continuous monitoring, audit evidence, metrics, and response. This role will build and own the platform end to end, from event sources through analyst decision-making and production operations.

The role involves regular travel to data center sites and participation in on-call rotations for critical services. No security clearance is required. Anthropic uses Claude throughout its engineering workflow and expects this role to do so as well.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the event bus and normalized event schema, including source identity, sequencing, health state, adapter contracts, and required adapters.
• Build correlation and alerting rules and services that turn events from independent sources into actionable analyst alerts.
• Build classification and analytics pipelines, including computer vision and multi-sensor fusion, with results published to the event bus.
• Build analyst surfaces, including queues, escalation tooling, dashboards, camera viewers, video wall content, and video analytics integrations.
• Deliver durable, tamper-evident event history, evidence exports, retention controls, and access controls for audit evidence.
• Instrument detection rates, nuisance ratios, alert aging, time to resolve, feed heartbeats, loss-of-telemetry alarms, fail-secure behavior, and rule-change auditing.
• Deploy site-local components, central services, and synchronization for configuration, rules, and state; commission sites and hand them over to analysts.
• Specify the servers, storage, and network segment on which the platform runs, consistent with the team's segmentation and hardening baseline.
• Define requirements and acceptance criteria for vendors and integrators, review deliverables, and decide whether work is accepted.

Requirements

• Experience building and running event-driven backend systems in production.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Python, Go, or Rust.
• Experience with a message bus or event-streaming system such as Kafka.
• Experience owning systems end to end, including architecture, tradeoffs, delivery, and production accountability.
• Experience integrating external systems such as vendor APIs, on-premises appliances, video platforms, and building systems.
• Ability to design systems that are not dependent on a single vendor.
• Experience directing vendor or integrator work, including writing requirements and acceptance criteria and reviewing deliverables.
• Ability to design for silent feeds, lost network paths, replayed events, de-tuned rules, unreliable sources, and other failure scenarios, and to test system behavior accordingly.
• Experience building tools for operators who use them under pressure and iterating with those operators.
• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field, as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or operating a security operations platform, physical security operations platform, or detection engineering system.
• Experience building ML or computer vision inference pipelines over video and sensor streams.
• PSIM or VMS integration experience, or familiarity with physical access control and building systems data.
• Experience producing evidence for auditors or assessors, including log integrity, retention, and chain of custody.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tooling as a core part of the engineering workflow.
