Details

Anthropic’s Account Abuse team ensures computing capacity is allocated fairly, minimizes resources available to bad actors, and prevents abuse from recurring. The role involves building systems that gather and analyze signals at scale, balancing tradeoffs, and coordinating with stakeholder teams. The ideal candidate can understand opponents’ means and motives and anticipate their responses to countermeasures.

Responsibilities

  • Respond quickly in a rapidly changing greenfield environment.
  • Integrate with other teams’ code to identify key points for gathering signals or introducing interventions while minimizing impacts on system stability, complexity, and architecture.
  • Integrate third-party data-enrichment vendors.
  • Create monitoring dashboards, alerts, and internal administration user experiences.
  • Work with data scientists to maintain awareness of usage patterns and trends.
  • Collaborate with the Policy & Enforcement team to maximize the impact of human-review availability.
  • Build robust, reliable, multi-layered defenses.
  • Lead root-cause analyses and deep-dive investigations into account activity to identify abuse patterns, uncover emerging attack vectors, and inform immediate enforcement actions and longer-term systemic defenses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or comparable experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data analysis tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong candidates may have 8 or more years of industry software engineering experience, excluding internships and co-ops, preferably focused on integrity, spam, fraud, or abuse detection.
  • Experience building trust and safety mechanisms for and using AI/ML systems, such as fraud-detection models, security monitoring tools, or infrastructure supporting these systems at scale, is valued.
  • Experience working closely with operational teams to build custom internal tooling is valued.

Compensation

  • Annual salary: $320,000–$485,000 USD.

Logistics

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • The role follows a location-based hybrid policy, with staff expected to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time.
  • Anthropic sponsors visas and makes reasonable efforts to support visa applications, although sponsorship is not guaranteed for every role or candidate.

Benefits

Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration.
