Details
Anthropic is seeking a Technical CBRN-E Threat Investigator to join its Threat Intelligence team and detect, investigate, and disrupt the misuse of AI systems for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives threats. The role focuses on AI safety and CBRN security, with particular interest in candidates specializing in chemical defense or biodefense. The position may involve exposure to explicit, violent, sexual, or psychologically disturbing content and may require responding to escalations during weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Detect and investigate attempts to misuse Anthropic's AI systems to develop, enhance, or disseminate CBRN-E weapons, pathogens, toxins, or other threats.
- Use SQL, Python, and other tools to analyze large datasets, trace user behavior patterns, and identify sophisticated threat actors.
- Develop CBRN-E-specific detection capabilities, abuse signals, tracking strategies, and methodologies for dual-use research concerns.
- Produce actionable intelligence reports covering CBRN-E attack vectors, vulnerabilities, and threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures.
- Conduct cross-platform threat analysis using real threat actor behavior, open-source research, and publicly reported programs.
- Collaborate with policy and enforcement teams on user violations and mitigation actions.
- Engage with government agencies, regulatory bodies, scientific organizations, and biosecurity and chemical security research communities.
- Inform safety-by-design strategies by forecasting how advances in AI may be used for CBRN-E purposes.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in biosecurity, chemical defense, biological weapons non-proliferation, dual-use research of concern, synthetic biology, or related CBRN-E threat domains.
- Demonstrated proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis and threat detection.
- Experience profiling threat actors and using threat intelligence frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with large language models and understanding of potential CBRN-E misuse of AI technology.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to work with researchers, policy experts, legal teams, external partners, government stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in biological sciences, chemistry, biodefense, biosecurity, or a related field.
- Experience countering weapons of mass destruction or other high-risk asymmetric threats.
- Experience working with government agencies or in regulated environments handling sensitive CBRN-E information.
- Background in AI safety, machine learning security, or technology abuse investigations.
- Familiarity with synthetic biology, biotechnology, or dual-use research.
- Experience building and scaling threat detection systems or abuse monitoring programs.
- Active Top Secret security clearance.
Benefits
Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office collaboration spaces.
