Details

Anthropic is seeking a Technical Cyber Threat Investigator to join its Threat Intelligence team. The role focuses on detecting, investigating, and disrupting the misuse of Anthropic's AI systems for malicious cyber operations. You will work at the intersection of AI safety and cybersecurity to investigate potential misuse, develop detection techniques, and build defenses against emerging AI-enabled cyber threats.

The position may involve exposure to explicit sexual, violent, or psychologically disturbing content and may require responding to escalations during weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Detect and investigate attempts to misuse Anthropic's AI systems for cyber operations, including influence operations, malware development, social engineering, and other adversarial activities.
  • Develop abuse signals and tracking strategies to proactively detect sophisticated threat actors across the platform.
  • Create actionable intelligence reports on attack vectors, vulnerabilities, and threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures targeting large language model systems.
  • Conduct cross-platform threat analysis based on real threat actor behavior, open-source research, dark web monitoring, and internal data.
  • Use investigation findings to implement systematic improvements to Anthropic's safety approach and mitigate harm at scale.
  • Study internal and broader ecosystem trends to anticipate AI misuse and generate and publish reports.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external threat intelligence partners, information-sharing communities, and government stakeholders.
  • Work cross-functionally to develop the threat intelligence program, including processes, tools, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis and threat detection.
  • Experience with large language models and understanding of how AI technology could be misused for cyber threats.
  • Subject matter expertise in abusive user behavior detection, such as influence operations, coordinated inauthentic behavior, or cyber threat intelligence.
  • Experience tracking threat actors across surface, deep, and dark web environments.
  • Ability to derive insights from large datasets and make decisions and recommendations.
  • Experience with threat actor profiling and threat intelligence frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to build processes from the ground up.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting to leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A relevant field of study demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with government agencies or in regulated environments.
  • Background in AI safety, machine learning security, or technology abuse investigation.
  • Experience building and scaling threat detection systems or abuse monitoring programs.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance.

Compensation

  • Annual salary: $230,000–$290,000 USD.

Work Policy and Benefits

  • Remote-friendly role with a location-based hybrid policy requiring staff to work from an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office time.
  • Anthropic sponsors visas and makes reasonable efforts to support visa applications, with assistance from an immigration lawyer.
  • Benefits include competitive compensation, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration.
