Details
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The Infrastructure organization builds the systems that enable training, safety experiments, and scaling Claude to millions of users. Developer Productivity owns the end-to-end experience of how engineers and researchers develop, build, test, and ship code at scale — from source control and language ecosystems in the monorepo, to build and CI infrastructure across multiple cloud providers, to developer acceleration tooling that integrates Claude into engineering workflows.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy and roadmap for your area, translating team-level goals into execution plans
- Define infrastructure architecture and ensure hard problems are solved (directly or via others)
- Design and build scalable, reliable distributed infrastructure and shared libraries to support high-volume workloads across engineering teams
- Own and evolve build environments, package management, and dependency systems to enable fast, reproducible builds
- Define and implement language ecosystem standards, tooling, and frameworks that drive developer productivity across research and production workloads
Requirements / Qualifications
- Deep experience with build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and/or developer tooling in a large monorepo environment
- Strong proficiency in Python, Rust and/or Go
- Experience with container orchestration and infrastructure at scale
- Experience building scalable, reliable distributed infrastructure and shared libraries
- Excellent communication skills and experience supporting internal partners to improve development experience
- Comfortable designing foundational systems and working independently on ambiguous, high-impact technical challenges
- Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Strong candidates may have
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering building and operating large-scale developer infrastructure
- 3+ years leading large-scale complex projects or teams as a tech lead
- Experience with CI orchestration tools (Buildkite, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and merge queue management at scale
- Experience building or operating remote build execution systems (Bazel Remote Execution API, BuildBarn, BuildBuddy)
- Experience with Nix/NixOS and Docker and managing large image/package sets at scale
- Experience building CLI tools, developer-facing services, and GitHub API and automation workflows
Compensation
Annual Salary: £325,000 - £390,000 GBP
Logistics
- Location: London, UK
- Location-based hybrid policy: staff are expected to be in one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time (some roles may require more time in office)
- Visa sponsorship: Anthropic states they do sponsor visas and retain an immigration lawyer to assist, though sponsorship is not guaranteed for every role/candidate
