Staff Software Engineer, UI Tooling

The UI Tooling team owns platforms, integrations, and tooling that support designers, engineers, and product managers across Airbnb, including design tooling, UI engineering workflow tooling, collaboration platforms, and AI-powered workflows.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead Kyber, Airbnb's prototyping and rapid deployment platform. You will drive the implementation, maintenance, and scaling of a system supporting thousands of internal projects and users, enabling non-technical builders to express ideas across Airbnb's product surface areas.

Responsibilities

• Rebuild Kyber onto Airbnb's next-generation cloud platforms.
• Evolve Kyber's capabilities to support the product development process.
• Integrate Kyber into the broader ecosystem supporting prototyping workflows.
• Set technical direction for the Kyber platform and make architectural decisions for systems enabling rapid deployment of internal applications and product feature prototypes.
• Write and review code hands-on, including work with AI coding agents.
• Establish and demonstrate standards for quality, availability, and system health across the platform.
• Partner with Infrastructure, Product, Security, and Design to translate cross-organizational objectives into platform capabilities.
• Advance capabilities for Product Managers, Designers, and other non-technical builders to create rich product feature prototypes.
• Mentor engineers and support the team through design reviews, technical guidance, and a collaborative, inclusive culture.

Requirements

• 9+ years of industry experience, ideally in fast-paced environments, with a track record of delivering large-scale service-oriented systems.
• Broad full-stack engineering capability across backend, frontend, mobile, APIs, and system architecture.
• Proven experience building customer-facing products from zero to one, including product definition, technical architecture, development, and launch.
• Experience with end-to-end product ownership, including iterating on launched products, responding to customer feedback, and improving adoption, usability, and business outcomes.
• Strong architectural design skills, including high-scale distributed services, well-designed APIs, data pipelines, efficient algorithms, and reliable integrations.
• Sound technical judgment and the ability to balance delivery speed, experimentation, scalability, and long-term engineering quality.
• A product-first engineering mindset and an understanding that technical decisions serve the products provided to customers.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience driving initiatives across teams, departments, and leadership.

Location

This position is US remote eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. If the position is employed by another Airbnb entity, the recruiter will provide information about eligible states.

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range is $212,000–$265,000 USD per year. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
