Details

Grafana Labs is looking for a Staff Technical Writer to create documentation and learning content that helps people adopt and master Grafana’s observability products. You’ll work with engineers, product managers, and the Grafana writing team to produce content for a range of products and audiences, from first-time users to experienced practitioners. The role involves learning new technical domains quickly and using AI-assisted workflows throughout the content lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, research, write, and maintain documentation and learning content, including concepts, tasks, tutorials, references, and in-product learning.
  • Use AI tools and workflows for drafting, structuring, technical validation, consistency checks, and content maintenance. Apply human judgment and take responsibility for accuracy.
  • Contribute to shared AI workflows and improve or automate content creation and maintenance practices.
  • Partner with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to understand product requirements, interview subject matter experts, and turn complex technical details into clear, accurate content.
  • Test documented procedures by running the software and identifying product or user experience gaps.
  • Use documentation and learning analytics, along with user feedback, to identify content gaps, prioritize work, and demonstrate impact.
  • Improve information architecture, voice, and consistency across documentation, including findability for people and AI-driven search and assistants.
  • Manage multiple projects, prioritize work, and communicate clearly when plans change.
  • Mentor teammates and share practices that improve the quality of the team’s work.

Requirements

  • Experience writing or documenting enterprise or developer-facing software, with a portfolio or writing samples demonstrating technical depth.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools and models in a writing workflow, such as LLM assistants, agentic coding tools, or custom prompts and skills, along with the ability to evaluate and verify their output.
  • Experience with docs-as-code, including command-line Git, GitHub pull requests and reviews, Markdown, and common integrated development environments.
  • Comfort working in technical environments and setting up, running, and troubleshooting software to verify documentation, including command-line tools, containers, or Kubernetes, or the willingness to learn quickly.
  • Experience collaborating with engineers and product managers to obtain accurate technical information.
  • Experience working remotely and asynchronously on a distributed team.

Skills and Attributes

  • Curiosity about AI workflows as a professional skill, including experimentation, knowledge sharing, and understanding where AI is effective and where it is not.
  • Technical credibility, accuracy, and the ability to learn new technical domains quickly.
  • Strong judgment and editing skills.
  • Ownership and the ability to manage multiple projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Clear, concise writing for readers of all experience levels.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, cloud-native tooling, or open-source documentation is a bonus.

Benefits

  • Equity, bonus where applicable, and other benefits.
  • 100% remote work in a global culture.
  • Career growth pathways.
  • In-person onboarding.
  • Global annual leave policy of 30 days per annum, including three Grafana Shutdown Days, subject to local legislation.
