Details

Grafana Labs is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the remote Ingest team within its Observability department. The team builds configuration and deployment tooling that helps customers deploy observability, including Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub.

Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform integrating metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It incorporates open-source technologies including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope.

Responsibilities

Manage and develop a team of backend and frontend engineers through regular feedback and career conversations.
Collaborate with go-to-market teams to help customers and prospects succeed with their observability collection journey.
Partner with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub fit into the end-to-end Grafana Cloud user experience.
Guide projects from ideation and planning through execution and post-launch activities.
Help the team consistently deliver high-quality results.
Foster a psychologically safe environment that supports learning, experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Work across team boundaries and partner with other functions to solve customer problems.
Support autonomous engineering teams in technical and product decision-making.
Use clear and empathetic communication to collaborate across time zones and cultures.

Requirements

Experience with observability, especially OpenTelemetry, or with building a central control plane that manages fleets of collectors is advantageous.
Experience managing engineering teams and developing team members.
Ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and improve team performance.
Strong customer focus and the ability to ground technical decisions in user needs and real-world impact.
Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
Up-to-date understanding of technical trends and the challenges faced by engineering teams.
Comfort working in a fully remote environment with distributed teams.
Curiosity about AI-assisted tooling and ideally practical experience incorporating AI-powered tools into team workflows.

Compensation & Benefits

UK base compensation range: GBP 103,000–GBP 129,000 per year.
