Details
Grafana Labs is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Ingest team within its Observability department. Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform integrating metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. The role is fully remote and open to candidates in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
The Ingest team builds and maintains configuration and deployment tooling that helps customers implement observability. The team owns Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub. Fleet Management is a cloud-based control plane for managing large fleets of Observability Collectors, while the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart supports observability collection deployments in Kubernetes environments.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a distributed team of backend and frontend engineers across EMEA and NASA, providing regular feedback and supporting career growth.
- Collaborate with go-to-market teams to help customers and prospects succeed with their observability collection journey.
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub fit into the end-to-end Grafana Cloud user experience.
- Guide projects from ideation and planning through execution and post-launch activities.
- Help the team consistently deliver high-quality results.
- Foster a psychologically safe environment that supports learning, experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Work across team boundaries and partner with other functions to solve customer problems.
- Use and encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development tools, including tools for prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups, while maintaining strong code review and quality standards.
Requirements
- Experience in observability, particularly OpenTelemetry, or in building central control planes that manage fleets of collectors is a strong advantage.
- Ability to work with autonomous engineering teams in both technical and product decision-making.
- Strong people and relationship-management skills, combined with the ability to stay current with technical trends and understand engineering challenges.
- Experience collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and improve team performance.
- Strong customer focus and the ability to ground technical decisions in user needs and real-world impact.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
- Curiosity and comfort using AI-powered tools, ideally with practical experience incorporating them into team workflows.
Compensation & Benefits
- Germany base compensation range: EUR 109,000–137,000 per year.
- Restricted Stock Units are included with all roles.
