Details

Our AI team builds GenAI applications that go into production at one of the Netherlands' largest banks. Our scope is bankwide, whether it’s Voice agents handling thousands of contact center calls or AI lending assistants that support lenders in writing credit proposals in the Credits domain. Agentic workflows that actually make it to users.

We don't stop at prototypes. We build, ship, measure, iterate, and do it fast.

If you've got concrete experience developing backends and deploying infrastructure then this role puts you close to the architecture behind real production AI: secure deployments, resilient services, and infrastructure built for scale.

Responsibilities

You design, build, and operate the backend services and infrastructure that power GenAI applications in production. You ensure that AI solutions are secure, scalable, and reliable in a real banking environment.

You will work in multidisciplinary teams consisting of AI engineers, product managers, and business developers to translate use cases into robust technical AI solutions and architectures. This includes building APIs, integrating LLMs into backend systems, and deploying resilient infrastructure that can handle real-world usage at scale. You design the infrastructure and backend of multiple different projects and support them when changes are needed.

Concretely, you will:

  • Design and implement backend services and Azure cloud infrastructure for GenAI use cases, including Voice AI, RAG pipelines, and agentic workflows.
  • Build and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines for production systems.
  • Ensure reliability and performance through monitoring, logging, observability, and optimization.
  • Collaborate with AI engineers to integrate GenAI capabilities into production-ready systems.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable backend and infrastructure solutions.
  • Own the full system lifecycle: design, build, deploy, operate, and continuously improve production systems.
  • Contribute to engineering excellence through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and backend/infrastructure best practices.

Working environment

You'll be part of a 25+ person AI team inside ABN AMRO's Innovation department. We operate with a startup mindset within a bank that serves millions of customers and employs thousands of individuals, with fast feedback loops, direct lines to business leadership, and real deployment at scale. Initiative is expected. Hybrid working.

Requirements

We don't hire on CV titles. We hire on what you've shipped. The team includes people who came through software engineering, data science, infra. What they share is proven AI expertise and a bias for building first and asking questions later.

What you’ve done:

  • Built and deployed Python backend services or platforms that run in production.
  • Worked with cloud infrastructure (Azure required).
  • Designed or maintained APIs and distributed systems that handle real-world usage.
  • Implemented CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
  • Shipped systems people actually relied on, and can clearly explain what worked, what didn’t, and why.
  • Experience integrating GenAI/LLM components is a plus, but not required.

How you work:

  • You take ownership from initial cloud architecture design to production deployment, and ensure systems continue to run smoothly.
  • You move quickly from idea to working system without needing heavy direction.
  • You are able to balance speed, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • You enjoy mentoring juniors and helping to grow their systems design & infrastructure knowledge.
  • You can clearly communicate technical decisions to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You are interested in GenAI and know how it fits into real production systems.
  • You have built something outside of your day job (tooling, infra, side project) that shows initiative and craftsmanship.

Benefits

  • Gross monthly salary (36-hour work week) with holiday allowance and a flexible benefit budget.
  • Excellent pension scheme.
  • Flexibility in working: working from home possible in consultation; ergonomic home office setup.
  • Five weeks of vacation per year plus two mandatory days off; option to purchase up to four additional weeks.
  • Five extra days for personal development or volunteer work.
  • Development budget of €1,000 per year (can accumulate up to €3,000).
  • Annual public transport pass for travel within the Netherlands (business & private).

Interview & application

Please answer these two questions when applying (applications without answers will not be reviewed):

  • Tell us about an AI product you built: what did you make, what was your role, and what did you learn when it hit production (or real users)?
  • What's the most interesting thing you've built or experimented with in AI in the last six months? Why does it matter to you?

Recruitment process consists of:

  • An online culture interview.
  • A technical case.
  • An offline technical interview.
