Details
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. The Solutions Architecture organization helps strategic customers design and validate technical solutions. This role builds tools, workflows, custom technical assets, AI agents, and automation that improve Solutions Architect productivity.
The AI Engineer works closely with Solutions Architects, business stakeholders, customers, Product, and Engineering to identify high-impact opportunities, build production-quality tools, and scale successful workflows across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Solutions Architects, SA leadership, Product, and Engineering to scope technical work and translate ambiguous business needs into defined deliverables.
- Evaluate and integrate AI capabilities, including LLMs, agents, and workflow automation, to deliver measurable productivity improvements.
- Architect and build internal tools, agents, and automated workflows for technical discovery, solution design, demonstrations, user engagements, territory and pipeline management, and product interlock.
- Harden tools and workflows built by Solutions Architects and managers into scalable, maintainable, production-grade solutions.
- Identify recurring workflow friction and build solutions that address common patterns.
- Build custom demo environments, proof-of-concept applications, and technical assets for strategic customer engagements.
- Document tools, architectures, and usage patterns so others can adopt and extend them.
- Debug, extend, and maintain backend systems across multiple codebases and infrastructure.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as an engineer shipping production systems.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals, including debugging failing systems, tracing issues across services, and reasoning about data flows.
- Experience building and deploying AI agents, LLM-powered tools, or workflow automation beyond basic prompt engineering.
- Experience scoping and delivering work with minimal oversight in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment.
- Proficiency in at least two of Ruby, Node.js, Python, or Next.js.
- Familiarity with AWS or GCP cloud infrastructure, including deployment, monitoring, and basic DevOps.
- Experience building internal tools, developer platforms, or workflow automation.
- Ability to work across multiple codebases and technology stacks simultaneously.
- Hands-on experience using AI and LLM tools in an engineering workflow, while retaining the ability to reason through problems and debug independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to scope engineering work and ship iteratively without a complete specification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing systems that non-engineers can build on or extend, such as platforms, low-code frameworks, or template systems.
- Experience in Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or GTM Engineering, or in product engineering roles involving close customer or go-to-market collaboration.
- Familiarity with Stripe products, APIs, or the payments and fintech domain.
- Experience integrating third-party platforms such as Salesforce or Gong.
- A track record of building tools or systems adopted beyond the immediate team.
- A background in consulting, professional services, or other roles combining technical depth with business context.
Working Style
The role suits a pragmatic builder who ships quickly, iterates based on real usage, recognizes reusable patterns, works autonomously without a traditional product team structure, and communicates effectively with domain experts and leadership.
