Details

You will evaluate, refine, and create elite-level writing in a variety of genres and formats to advance Grok's capabilities in one or more Writing Specialty areas.

Responsibilities

  • Use proprietary software to label, annotate, and refine AI-generated text for clarity, structure, engagement, and domain-specific accuracy.
  • Utilize one or more Writing Specialty areas of expertise, such as Creative Fiction Writing, Game Writing, or Technical Writing, to deliver high-quality curated data that improves Grok's writing outputs for specific audiences and use cases.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other specialists to develop tasks that advance AI's writing proficiency.
  • Improve annotation tools and workflows for efficiency.
  • Pivot as needed to work on secondary writing-based and non-writing-based tasks to improve Grok.

Requirements

  • Proven proficiency in English and qualification for at least one Writing Specialty.
  • Ability to critique and refine AI-generated text for readability, logical flow, grammar, consistency, style, creativity, imaginative elements, and reader immersion.
  • Strong attention to detail, with experience using reference materials, style guides, and other resources for accurate, style-adherent annotations.
  • Flawless grammar, spelling, clarity, and precision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and editorial skills.
  • Commitment to developing AI that produces expert-level writing.
  • Ability to adapt and work under deadlines.
  • Applicants must provide verifiable proof of specialty-specific qualifications.

Specialty-Specific Qualifications

  • Creative Fiction Writing: At least two of the following: verified novel publishing deals with major houses; novel sales exceeding 50,000 units excluding free promotions; 10 or more short stories in major outlets; major awards recognition; or critical acclaim such as starred reviews or features in major publications.
  • Game Writing: At least five years of professional game-writing experience; a public portfolio showcasing branching narratives, character development, dialogue trees, and measurable player impact; and published credits in notable games demonstrating expertise in narrative design, lore creation, and integration with gameplay mechanics.
  • Technical Writing: At least five years of technical-writing experience focused on user manuals, API documentation, software guides, or technical reports for technology, engineering, or scientific fields; a public portfolio of high-impact examples; STC Certified Professional Technical Communicator certification or equivalent; and a bachelor's degree or higher in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Nonfiction Writing: At least five years of nonfiction-writing experience, including three or more published books with commercial or critical success; a public portfolio of samples or manuscripts; and awards, funding success, or relevant professional memberships. A bachelor's degree or higher in English, History, or Journalism is highly preferred.
  • Journalistic Writing: At least five years of professional journalism experience; expertise in investigative journalism, feature writing, or specialized beats; a public portfolio with bylines in major outlets and awards, citations, or engagement metrics; and a bachelor's degree or higher in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • Copywriting: At least five years of copywriting or marketing-writing experience; expertise in ad copy, email sequences, landing pages, and social media; experience as a Content Strategist, Copy Chief, or Marketing Writer; a public portfolio with quantified impact; and a bachelor's degree or higher in Marketing, Communications, English, or a related field. Experience across diverse industries is highly preferred.
  • Web Writing: At least five years of professional web-content creation or digital-marketing experience; demonstrated SEO-optimized writing expertise; experience managing full content lifecycles; a public portfolio of high-impact work; certifications in digital-marketing tools such as Google Analytics or SEMrush; and a bachelor's degree or higher in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Grant Writing: At least five years of grant-writing experience with a record of securing more than $1 million across multiple grants and a win rate of at least 50%; expertise in researching funding opportunities and grant guidelines; samples of narratives, budgets, and evaluation plans; and a bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Public Policy, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Academic Writing: At least five years of academic-writing experience involving peer-reviewed publications, theses, dissertations, or scholarly books; articles in top-tier journals, books with reputable presses, more than 500 Google Scholar citations, or an h-index of at least 10; a public portfolio demonstrating rigorous argumentation and citation styles such as APA, MLA, and Chicago; and a PhD in a relevant field.
  • Poetry Writing: An advanced degree in creative writing, literature, poetry, or a related field; publications in reputable literary journals, anthologies, or poetry collections; awards, fellowships, or residencies from recognized organizations; and qualifying publications or recognition involving traditional poetic forms. Applicants whose publication record is primarily free verse should not apply.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with AI tools or prompt engineering.
  • Ability to teach or critique writing collaboratively at technical and non-technical levels.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, and other remote-work and collaboration tools.

Location and Work Expectations

  • Tutor roles may be full-time, part-time, or contractor positions, depending on role needs and candidate fit.
  • Contractor hours vary based on project scope and availability. No fixed commitments are required. Most projects may involve at least 10 hours per week, although this is not a fixed commitment.
  • Contractors can set their own hours and determine the time needed to complete deliverables.
  • Roles may be performed remotely from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility, time-zone compatibility, and role-specific needs.
  • U.S.-based candidates cannot be hired in Wyoming or Illinois.
  • Visa sponsorship is not provided.
  • Personal devices must be a Chromebook, a Mac running macOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later.

Compensation and Benefits

  • U.S.-based candidates: $35–$75 per hour, depending on factors including subspecialty, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications.
  • Compensation information for international candidates will be provided during recruitment.
  • Benefits vary by employment type, location, and jurisdiction. Eligible U.S.-based positions may include health insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave.
