The role owns two interconnected functions: Infrastructure Services, including CI/CD orchestration, GitOps continuous delivery, and artifact management, and Developer Tooling, including CI/CD pipelines and internal developer platforms.

The Director will define and execute the strategy for integrating AI across the software development lifecycle, including AI-assisted code generation and review, AI-driven engineering intelligence, automated test generation, intelligent test selection, and AI-assisted incident response. The role has executive visibility and responsibility for improving engineering productivity, software delivery speed, production confidence, and the safe adoption of AI across the SDLC.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and develop a multi-team organization of managers and senior engineers across Infrastructure Services and Developer Tooling.
  • Define and execute the developer experience vision covering build, test, deployment, artifact management, internal platform capabilities, and AI-augmented developer workflows.
  • Own the strategy and rollout of AI tooling across the SDLC, including AI coding assistants, AI code review and pull request automation, AI-assisted test generation, and AI engineering intelligence platforms.
  • Drive AI tooling adoption, measure its impact, and ensure tools are deployed safely and effectively.
  • Ensure the availability, performance, and security of systems used by engineers.
  • Evolve CI/CD pipelines to be faster, more reliable, self-service, and secure.
  • Establish metrics and use them to drive measurable improvements in developer productivity.
  • Partner with security, legal, and AI leadership to establish policies for AI-generated code, intellectual property and licensing, data handling, model selection, and acceptable-use guardrails.
  • Partner with security, SRE, product engineering, architecture, and AI/ML teams on standards, golden paths, and shared platforms.
  • Own the budget, tooling investments, and vendor relationships for the developer experience portfolio, including AI tooling expenditure.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain engineering leaders and individual contributors.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading managers.
  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling developer experience, platform engineering, or DevOps organizations in a mid-to-large engineering organization.
  • Deep, hands-on familiarity with modern CI/CD and developer tooling, including Jenkins, ArgoCD, Artifactory, or equivalent technologies.
  • Practical experience evaluating, deploying, and measuring the impact of AI developer tooling.
  • A clear perspective on how AI changes the SDLC while maintaining security, code quality, and developer trust.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes, GitOps, containerization, and cloud-native deployment patterns.
  • Experience defining and operating internal developer platforms and golden paths.
  • Strong strategic thinking combined with the ability to engage deeply in technical decisions.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence engineering and partner with security, compliance, legal, and product leadership.
  • A demonstrated focus on developer empathy, self-service, and reducing toil.
