Engineering Manager, Billing Platform

Sentry helps developers fix errors and performance issues before users notice. The Billing team works at the intersection of product, finance, and infrastructure to ensure that observable events such as errors, logs, traces, and tokens are accurately measured, priced, and billed.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team responsible for critical workflows such as checkout and invoicing, while developing features that help customers manage spending and support future product and pricing models.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the team roadmap, aligning team goals with organizational objectives and the overall platform strategy.
• Provide technical leadership on complex distributed systems and software architecture problems.
• Ensure the team proactively identifies areas for operational and technical improvement.
• Partner with business and technical teams to translate business goals into actionable objectives and scalable solutions.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, including Staff-level engineers.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
• Communicate team progress, challenges, and strategic direction to senior leadership, stakeholders, and the wider organization.
• Represent the team's work internally and externally, including through blog posts and presentations.
• Define where the Billing platform needs to be in 6–12 months and translate that vision into team priorities.
• Scope work, allocate resources, and establish engineering milestones and delivery dates.

Requirements

• Experience working on a customer-facing product, ideally within developer tools or high-traffic product surfaces.
• Experience owning a product area end-to-end, from shipping new features through long-term maintenance and iteration.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly and succinctly articulate technical concepts and tradeoffs.
• A product- and platform-minded approach, with an interest in distributed systems and software architecture.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, business teams, and technical teams.
• Ability to support career growth and create opportunities for team members to stretch and excel.
• 5+ years of professional engineering experience, preferably with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar technologies.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary: $220,000–$350,000 per year.
• Eligible for employee benefit plans and programs, including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage.
