Details
Anthropic is seeking an experienced engineering leader to lead a team of Connectivity engineers based in London. The Connectivity team builds infrastructure that enables Claude, Claude Code, Cowork, and the API to securely connect with external systems. The team owns the MCP proxy, OAuth and token management systems, and contributes to the MCP open standard and official Python and TypeScript SDKs.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team building connectivity infrastructure, including the MCP proxy, OAuth, and token management systems.
- Hire, coach, and develop technical talent using an inclusive and equitable approach.
- Provide career development guidance and performance management for direct reports.
- Partner with Connectivity engineering leadership in San Francisco and with product, security, and platform teams to define the roadmap.
- Drive cross-team and cross-organization alignment for work spanning claude.ai, Claude Code, Cowork, and the API.
- Establish engineering best practices, including on-call operations, incident response, and postmortems.
- Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Anthropic's engineering management team.
Requirements
- Experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- A technical background in backend or platform engineering, with sufficient depth to guide architectural decisions and participate in technical discussions.
- Experience operating production distributed systems, including reliability, observability, and incident response at scale.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build consensus across teams and time zones.
- Demonstrated success building a culture of belonging, product excellence, and engineering excellence.
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience as an engineering manager.
- Familiarity with MCP or experience contributing to open standards or open-source ecosystems.
- Experience leading teams collaborating with distributed or cross-time-zone partner teams.
- Familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts, including OAuth, token management, or identity systems.
- Experience building or operating API gateways, proxies, or multi-tenant platforms.
- Experience building for enterprise customers, including admin controls, governance, and compliance requirements.
- Experience working on AI/ML products or agentic systems.
