Details

Reddit's Notifications Platform, also known as Foundation, builds the durable infrastructure and services powering push, email, and in-app notifications. The team provides APIs, eventing, delivery orchestration, preferences, templates, experimentation hooks, observability, and reliability foundations for notification experiences across Reddit.

The Engineering Manager will lead the Notifications Platform team and shape the systems that power Reddit Notifications. The team builds reliable, scalable platform capabilities that improve notification quality and reliability and enable product teams to launch notification experiences safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team that architects, builds, and operates Reddit's Notifications Platform and Foundations.
  • Set technical direction for shared platform capabilities spanning notification APIs, eventing and workflow orchestration, delivery pipelines, user preferences, templates, experimentation, and observability.
  • Collaborate with adjacent Notifications ML teams to build and productionize ML-powered notification systems.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to define platform contracts, improve developer experience, and enable safe and efficient launches.
  • Drive the full development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of highly available services.
  • Establish strong practices for reliability, scalability, performance, privacy, security, and operational excellence.
  • Build and maintain a diverse team that collaborates across disciplines to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Partner with product and upper management to align team plans with company goals.
  • Communicate the team's work and set expectations with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Help engineers identify career goals and create development plans.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience building and managing engineering teams.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or Engineering Manager building and operating large-scale distributed systems or platform services.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, event-driven systems, and production APIs.
  • Experience with notification, messaging, communications, or other high-volume delivery systems is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with highly available, low-latency services and operational excellence practices.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, data storage, streaming or messaging systems, and observability tooling.
  • Experience setting technical direction for platform teams and balancing consistency, extensibility, and team autonomy.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed, innovative, results-oriented, and biased toward action in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to tackle ambiguous and undefined problems.

Compensation

The base salary range is $217,000–$303,000 USD. Final offer amounts depend on factors including skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses or credentials.
