Reddit Consumer Engineering builds and scales products that Redditors use to discover content, participate in communities, and connect with others. Product Engineers partner with Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and Frontend Engineers to build, experiment with, and scale features used by hundreds of millions of people.

This centralized role hires across consumer teams including Core Product & Feeds, Community & Presence, Growth & Engagement, Monetization & Conversion, and Identity & Security.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Management, Product Design, Data Science, and Client Engineers across iOS, Android, and Web to translate business and user needs into reliable, low-latency technical solutions.
• Own the full software lifecycle for major product initiatives, including technical design documents, API contracts, development, testing, rollout, and observability.
• Design, build, and evaluate A/B experiments using tools such as BigQuery, HEX, and Firebase to analyze user behavior, conversion funnels, and retention loops.
• Build and maintain scalable APIs and distributed backend services optimized for client consumption and consumer UI performance, using GraphQL, REST, and gRPC.
• Establish engineering best practices, improve developer workflows, mentor teammates, and use modern AI-integrated tools to ship high-quality products efficiently.

Requirements

• Five or more years of hands-on backend development experience building and operating large-scale distributed serving systems in high-concurrency environments.
• Proficiency in one or more front-end-focused programming languages, including JavaScript, TypeScript, or ES6.
• Experience with one or more front-end web frameworks such as Lit, Polymer, React, Vue, or Angular, including experience with CSS.
• Experience or interest in using AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate development workflows.
• A user-centric mindset and an understanding of product usability, interaction design, social dynamics, and user growth loops.
• Comfort working with Data Scientists and Product Managers to design experiments, establish performance metrics, and iterate based on real-time feedback.
• Ability to work independently and navigate ambiguity in fast-paced product environments.
• Strong communication skills and experience driving cross-functional alignment in fully remote or hybrid team environments.

Additional Information

The base salary range for this position is $164,200–$229,900 USD. This job posting may span more than one career level. Final offer amounts depend on factors including skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses or credentials.
