Details

The Media Experience team empowers users to discover, consume, and engage with media content on Reddit, with a focus on making video consumption intuitive and engaging. The team uses data, Quality of Experience (QoE) signals, and rapid product experimentation to improve video engagement and build a best-in-class video experience.

Responsibilities

Lead the iOS architecture for user-facing features that improve video discovery and consumption.
Design and build immersive viewing surfaces and intuitive UI/UX flows to maximize watch time, user retention, and daily active video consumers.
Partner with senior management to foster rapid prototyping and A/B testing.
Balance high execution velocity with the performance requirements of a modern media application.
Use design, performance signals, and retention data to measure success.
Collaborate with client media infrastructure, backend, Feeds, and machine learning ranking teams.
Translate platform capabilities such as HLS streaming and personalized recommendations into seamless iOS features.
Act as a strategic engineering partner to Product, Design, and Data Science.
Help shape the product roadmap and align growth goals with iOS engineering best practices.
Establish best practices for integrating media components and managing complex media lifecycles.
Maintain app stability and rendering performance, including on constrained devices and networks.

Requirements

5+ years of hands-on iOS experience.
Proven experience developing user-facing native iOS mobile applications at scale using Swift.
Experience leading cross-team projects that solve tangible business problems and deliver measurable outcomes.
Strong understanding of experimentation, funnels, metrics, and Quality of Experience (QoE) signals.
Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous, fast-paced growth environment.
Clear and transparent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to technical and executive audiences.
Hands-on experience optimizing video player performance or building feature-rich products on core media playback components.
Experience with AVFoundation and VideoToolbox.
Familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and recommendation or feed systems is a strong plus.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $190,800–$267,100 USD per year. The role is also eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units and may be eligible for a commission depending on the position offered.
