The role involves building and scaling products used by consumers and care providers globally, working closely with product, design, and research teams in a fast-moving, high-impact environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable full-stack systems for consumer and enterprise health.
- Own end-to-end feature development, from early design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Build and maintain data pipelines and services that meet strict privacy, security, and compliance requirements, including HIPAA.
- Collaborate with researchers and safety teams to integrate reliability, evaluation, and guardrails into production systems.
- Debug, optimize, and harden systems to support high availability, performance, and global scale.
- Take ownership of ambiguous problems and drive them to practical, high-quality solutions.
Requirements
- Strong engineering skills and an interest in building durable, well-designed systems.
- 5+ years of experience writing maintainable, production-quality code.
- Ability to operate with high agency and own problems end-to-end with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in fast-moving, cross-functional teams with engineers, product managers, designers, and researchers.
- Comfort handling essential work involving compliance, data plumbing, and reliability.
- Goal-oriented approach to selecting tools and technologies.
- Thoughtfulness about the societal impact of AI and alignment with OpenAI’s mission.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong product engineering instincts and the ability to turn a rough specification into a polished solution.
- Entrepreneurial drive or previous experience as a founder.
- Experience with health-related products.
- High-quality public code, such as GitHub projects or open-source contributions.
- Experience building compliant or regulated products in healthcare, enterprise, finance, or similar domains.
- Experience with distributed systems, backend architecture, or large-scale data pipelines.
