Details

During this six-month internship, you will use data science to investigate questions about risk, controls, and banking processes. You will develop a data science project from the initial research question through analysis and results as part of the Group Audit Data Analytics team, with guidance from experienced data scientists.

Group Audit executes audits as short research projects covering preparation and orientation, fieldwork, and reporting. The Data Analytics team uses data science techniques to help auditors identify patterns, risks, and areas requiring further investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Translate audit research objectives into a data science project.
  • Explore, prepare, and engineer the data required for analysis.
  • Set up a data science project in Databricks.
  • Discuss approaches and findings with data scientists and audit colleagues.
  • Communicate results clearly, including uncertainties and limitations.
  • Contribute ideas and ask questions throughout the project.
  • Potentially support an audit with Data Analytics, depending on available time and project needs.
  • Work on projects such as developing a network-analysis approach to identify relevant connections or patterns, or evaluating and improving an existing similarity-analysis method.
  • Agree on the final project based on current audit needs, available data, and learning objectives.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Master's-level degree in a field that includes data science methods.
  • Interested in learning new subjects and topics.
  • Able to analyse unfamiliar research questions, identify what is most relevant, and discuss appropriate next steps with the team.
  • Enjoys collaborating with people from different professional backgrounds and sharing ideas, listening to others, and asking for input.
  • Able to communicate questions, approaches, and findings clearly in English.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, Databricks, network analysis, or similarity methods.
  • Available to start in December; the exact starting date can be discussed.
  • Enrolled at a Dutch university or higher-level educational institution for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Available for approximately six months, ideally for 36 hours per week.
  • No previous banking or audit experience is required.

Benefits

  • Internship allowance of €750 per month, based on a 36-hour work week.
  • Work laptop.
  • Hybrid working environment with flexibility to coordinate work with university classes and projects.
  • Informal and multicultural environment among experienced professionals.
  • Membership in the Young ABN AMRO Community, including social events, networking opportunities, workshops, and activities for young professionals and interns.
  • Named supervisor and regular check-ins to discuss progress, questions, and learning goals.
