Details

Are you ready to dive into the world of finance and banking of the Netherlands?

As an intern in the Finance Business Advice (FBA) department, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of how a leading bank operates. You'll have the chance to make a real impact through meaningful improvements and innovations. This is your opportunity to work with diverse stakeholders, enhance your skills in planning, analysis, persuasion, and communication, and contribute to the bank's success.

The team

Finance Business Advice (FBA) is a partner to the business, guiding and supporting it in achieving its financial targets. Our work is built on three pillars:

  • Setting Financial Targets: Developing a three-year plan with bank-wide financial goals.
  • Tracking Progress: Monitoring these targets through detailed management reports.
  • Providing Financial Advice: Offering recommendations for initiatives that support achieving these targets.

FBA is organized into seven teams mirroring the organization of ING NL — two responsible for a comprehensive bank-wide view (A), three responsible for distinct business lines (B), and two responsible for the functional lines (C):

  • Central Advice & Planning (A) – Responsible for full ING NL financials.
  • Data & Services (A) – Responsible for processing of data in the ING NL and Group systems and data-based analysis and reporting for the department.
  • Private Individuals & Private Banking (B) – Responsible for the full P&L of the named business segments.
  • Business Banking (B) – Responsible for the full P&L of the named business segment.
  • Wholesale Banking (B) – Responsible for the full P&L of the named business segment.
  • COO & Tech (C) – Responsible for the full cost base of Operations and Technology.
  • Support Functions (C) – Responsible for the full cost base of all functions excluding Operations & Technology.

Responsibilities

As an intern in FBA you can be assigned to various teams based on your knowledge, skills, and proficiencies. The work is designed to help you:

  • Develop knowledge about the banking market and business strategy.
  • Understand the department's day-to-day work.
  • Contribute to innovation, improvement, or change initiatives that impact the bank.

Currently there is a specific need for an intern with high proficiency in Power BI to support improvements in reporting and to support performance dialogues between finance and business teams. This will be one of the projects you work on, alongside another project suited to your profile.

Examples of recent internship projects:

  • Automate the process for collecting monthly and quarterly non-financial KPIs from more than ten different sources.
  • Automate the monthly reporting of staff movements between departments using Python.
  • Simplify the process of collecting sub-product level income indicators for a major product group.
  • Conduct statistical analyses on mortgage interests and market shares, create a financial health model to improve customer profitability, and analyse mortgage funding profiles.
  • Build a new, detailed sales forecasting model for one of ING’s retail products.

Requirements

To take this opportunity you’ll need:

  • Master or Bachelor (third-year) student.
  • Strong interest in Finance, Economics, Business Administration.
  • Strong communication skills and high ambition/energy level.
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset.
