Details

As an intern, you will be part of the Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB) team within the Banking Risk tribe of the Financial Risk department. The team contributes to the global management of interest rate risks that affect ING Group’s consolidated balance sheet.

The team is responsible for identifying, evaluating, controlling, monitoring, and reporting on interest rate risks. You will work in a dynamic, international, corporate environment and collaborate closely with senior risk management and the 1st Line of Defence.

Responsibilities

  • Support the IRRBB chapter in identifying, analysing, and quantifying interest rate risk for ING globally, assisting in the monthly reporting & analysis cycle.
  • Leverage programming skills to optimize and improve IRRBB risk systems, analytical tools, and reporting dashboards.
  • Apply GenAI (e.g., Copilot, Python-based tools) to data analytics or financial risk problems.
  • Interact with risk professionals in the team and provide support to senior risk management and the 1st Line of Defence in managing and reducing financial risks as required.

Requirements

  • Availability for 36 hours per week.
  • Must be enrolled in a Dutch university for the entire duration of the internship and available for a minimum of 6 months. (EU-university enrollment accepted for EU passport holders.)
  • Able to physically join colleagues weekly in the Amsterdam office.
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a related discipline. Internship topics are not appropriate for thesis work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen interest in data, quantitative analysis and modelling.
  • Skilled in Python programming and Power BI to strengthen existing models.
  • Experience with refactoring and data engineering-related tasks and a good understanding of quantitative methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proactive, able to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Exposure to GenAI tools or techniques is a plus.
