The team provides seamless technological support and solutions so that OpenAI employees are well-equipped and connected, enabling them to contribute to AI research, corporate operations, and product initiatives.
About the Role
As an ITAV Event Technical Producer, you will lead technical production for complex internal and external events across multiple sites, from early planning through rehearsal and live delivery. You will partner with internal stakeholders and technical teams to translate event requirements into clear production plans. You will coordinate internal and external crews, direct large distributed shows, coordinate cross-site handoffs, resolve production challenges, make informed technical tradeoffs, build reusable production practices and AI workflows, improve event delivery processes, and mentor peers and junior crew members.
This is a full-time, onsite role requiring five days per week in San Francisco. Travel to other OpenAI locations is required as needed for assigned events.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical production for complex internal, hybrid, and distributed events from planning and scoping through rehearsal, live delivery, and debrief.
- Align Internal Communications, Marketing, Brand Experience, and Workplace stakeholders on audience goals, requirements, scope, dependencies, and decision owners.
- Convert ambiguous or competing needs into an agreed production plan and readiness criteria.
- Configure and operate live audio, video switching, cameras, playback, conferencing, streaming, and recording systems.
- Integrate the run of show across sites and lead multiple global crews for company-wide events.
- Coordinate technical cues, rehearsals, content handoffs, schedules, and contingencies with partner teams.
- Lead rehearsals and validate the complete audience experience, including remote contribution, playback, recording, and tested backup paths.
- Prioritize technical production tradeoffs and lead risk reviews and incident response.
- Resolve ambiguity within your scope and seek guidance for complex decisions owned by event, staffing, budget, or engineering partners.
- Build reusable production plans, show files, runbooks, and change-control practices.
- Coach peers and junior crew members and verify improvements in readiness, troubleshooting, and execution.
- Set a prioritized roadmap for production improvements using audience feedback, debriefs, and recurring failures.
- Lead workflow changes across teams and define permanent system improvements with AV Engineering.
- Identify repeatable production work and build AI and agentic workflows with partner teams.
- Validate AI workflow results, establish operating and maintenance ownership, support adoption, and measure preparation-effort or reliability improvements.
Requirements
- Experience leading complex live or hybrid productions across multiple teams, from ambiguous requirements through rehearsal, delivery, and debrief.
- Advanced expertise in multiple live-production domains, such as audio, video, conferencing, streaming, or AV-over-IP.
- Ability to diagnose complex interactions across a complete signal path.
- Experience configuring and operating professional production systems and creating reusable show files or control workflows.
- Practical AV-over-IP and networking knowledge sufficient to troubleshoot live media, timing, and connectivity with engineering partners.
- Experience independently resolving ambiguous production problems, setting detailed plans, and prioritizing tradeoffs.
- Demonstrated ownership of rehearsals, technical readiness, failover testing, and calm incident response for high-priority productions.
- Ability to lead crews and influence partner teams without reporting authority, with clear boundaries for content, brand, budget, staffing, and engineering decisions.
- Experience working with communications, marketing, brand or creative experience, Workplace, and technical partners on complex events, including sensitive planning and late changes.
- Experience building reusable production frameworks and validated AI workflows, guiding team adoption, and mentoring peers or junior staff with measurable improvements.
- Experience with multi-space or multi-location productions and sensitive executive events is a plus.
- Experience with systems such as Q-SYS, Dante, Ross, Vizrt, or comparable production platforms is a plus.
