Details
Airbnb is seeking a NextStay Fellow to work as a hands-on Technical Program Manager (TPM) in its engineering organization. The NextStay Fellowship is designed for candidates with a strong program management foundation who will grow into the full scope and ambiguity of the role with support from experienced TPMs and engineering partners.
Responsibilities
- Lead execution of projects with defined scopes and approaches, converting direction from managers or senior TPMs into realistic plans based on known constraints.
- Break work into trackable components and use input and output metrics to monitor progress and identify slippage early.
- Align project teams and hold contributors accountable for deliverables and milestones while anticipating upcoming work.
- Identify risks and mitigation options with team members and leaders, and manage identified risks through resolution.
- Communicate project vision and success criteria clearly to project teams and stakeholders.
- Re-evaluate strategy with leadership guidance and determine when to pivot or stay the course.
- Collaborate with engineers to identify technical gaps and apply a working understanding of sound technical principles.
- Own execution of technical programs spanning multiple engineering, product, and operations teams over several quarters.
- Manage scope, schedule, quality trade-offs, delivery plans, dependencies, and stakeholder alignment.
- Participate in cultural and functional excellence activities, including Connect apprenticeship contributions and mentorship, diversity and inclusion programming, and hackathons.
Requirements
- Active-duty service member currently enrolled in the USSOCOM Warrior Care Program, Career Transition Internship, or a similar program. DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible.
- Ability to begin the Career Transition Fellowship by November 2026 and complete at least 120 days before military transition.
- Within 180 days of military transition at the time the fellowship starts.
- Written approval from the chain of command authorizing participation before final selection.
- Typically two years of relevant experience, with a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to build realistic plans based on constraints and track progress using input and output metrics.
- Familiarity with managing scope, schedule, and quality trade-offs.
- Ability to identify dependencies and risks, align teams on mitigations, and drive risks through resolution.
- Technical judgment and comfort collaborating with engineers to evaluate solutions and trade-offs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate project vision and success criteria.
- Ability to take ownership, drive programs forward, resolve issues independently when appropriate, and escalate decisions carrying significant business risk.

Additional Information
The fellowship is not guaranteed to convert into a full-time position. Full-time employment depends on headcount availability and business hiring needs.
Compensation
Pay range: $151,000–$151,000 USD per year.
