Details

Reddit's iOS Platform team sets the technical direction for iOS at Reddit. The team improves developer efficiency through libraries, APIs, frameworks, performance monitoring, shared components, and build tools. It also owns core app components such as the networking and caching stack and defines design patterns and technologies for the codebase.

This role will architect Reddit's iOS app to scale for the next 100M+ daily active users, establish iOS development standards, improve the iOS development experience, mentor senior iOS engineers, and serve as the go-to expert for iOS app architecture challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture of Reddit's iOS mobile app and scale it to the next 100M+ daily active users.
  • Propose ideas and solutions to make Reddit's mobile apps best-in-class.
  • Identify gaps in the current iOS app architecture and lead platform redesigns to improve modularity, performance, and quality.
  • Define, measure, and execute user-facing performance goals, including minimizing App Not Responding (ANR) rates, reducing app launch time such as Time to Interactive (TTFF), and eliminating slow or dropped frames.
  • Improve observability and data quality for key performance areas by establishing reliable telemetry, monitoring, and guardrails for ANR rates, app launch time, and slow or dropped frames.
  • Drive a company-wide culture of performance by providing iOS engineers with the tools and skills needed to own the performance of their product surfaces.
  • Mentor iOS developers across the company.
  • Serve as the go-to person for developers working on complex iOS development problems.
  • Champion technology selection and best practices in Reddit's iOS application development.
  • Act as an architect for Reddit's iOS application.

Requirements

  • Deep, experience-based understanding of building mobile applications at scale.
  • Strategic thinking and a passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that improves people's lives globally.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, including at least 5+ years designing and developing iOS applications.
  • Experience influencing organizations of 200+ engineers on technical direction and best practices related to iOS.
  • Experience with modern iOS development frameworks, including SwiftUI and structured concurrency.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams such as design, product, and data teams to deliver great user experiences.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical expertise.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $232,500–$325,500 USD. The role may also be eligible for commission depending on the position offered.
