About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
OpenAI's mission is to ensure that AGI benefits all of humanity. The Business Systems team builds internal products and platforms that help OpenAI operate with speed, reliability, and care.
The team develops internal applications and workflows for Finance and Supply Chain, including React and TypeScript interfaces, Python services and APIs, data models, workflow orchestration, enterprise integrations, and systems connected to systems of record. Examples include integrations with Oracle Fusion and Zip, contract intelligence for B2B revenue recognition, and Temporal-based agentic workflows for credit checks, duplicate bank detection, and invoice triaging.
The Product Engineer will build internal applications end to end, spanning product discovery, user experience, frontend, backend services, data models, workflow orchestration, and integrations with order management, fulfillment, and supply chain systems. The role involves taking problems from initial discussions with Finance or Supply Chain partners through design, implementation, rollout, and production support.
Responsibilities
- Own the full product lifecycle for internal applications, from understanding the problem and shaping the solution through implementation, rollout, measurement, and ongoing improvement.
- Build internal user experiences with React, TypeScript, and modern web technologies, backed by Python services and APIs.
- Design integrations with Oracle Fusion, Zip, and other enterprise systems, including order management, fulfillment, and supply chain APIs.
- Own API contracts, authentication, permissions, validation, data mapping, and safe writes to systems of record.
- Build durable workflows and agentic systems using Temporal or similar workflow technologies, including retries, idempotency, human approval, audit logs, observability, replay, and backfill.
- Apply AI models, tool use, and agents to business workflows with appropriate validation, evaluation, human review, and operational safeguards.
- Work directly with Finance and Supply Chain partners to understand workflows, identify high-value problems, and turn ambiguous requirements into dependable products.
- Own production quality through testing, monitoring, incident response, security reviews, and operational support.
- Identify patterns across products and contribute reusable application, integration, and workflow building blocks.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, excluding internships, with a track record of shipping production software.
- Experience building products or internal tools from idea to production and making tradeoffs with incomplete or changing requirements.
- Strong Python experience and familiarity with backend services and APIs; FastAPI or similar frameworks are helpful.
- Proficiency with React, TypeScript, and modern web development, or a strong willingness to work across the stack.
- Experience with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL and sound data modeling judgment.
- Experience designing integrations, distributed systems, asynchronous workflows, or order, fulfillment, and supply chain APIs that safely handle failures and retries.
- Experience with Temporal, queues, event-driven systems, MCP connectors, AI agents, or evaluation systems is a plus but not required.
- Strong focus on product quality, reliability, security, performance, and user experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, application owners, data engineers, and business partners.
