OpenAI’s Applied AI organization develops products that bring advanced AI models to the world through APIs and user-interface products such as ChatGPT and Codex. The Product Operations team provides operational expertise for product teams, streamlines and automates organizational operations, and improves information channels across Applied and adjacent functions.

This is a senior individual contributor role based in San Francisco, California. The position follows a hybrid work model with three days in the office per week.

Responsibilities

• Stand up and operate alpha, beta, and general availability programs with clear entry and exit criteria.
• Recruit design partners, run internal dogfooding programs, and transform qualitative and quantitative insights into prioritized product work.
• Own the launch calendar and readiness cadence for a product group.
• Run cross-functional checkpoints across Product, Engineering, Research, Safety, Security, Legal, Support, and go-to-market teams.
• Build systems to capture, triage, and synthesize user feedback into actionable recommendations.
• Lead coordination for high-impact activities such as Dev Day demos, rollout waves, and partner showcases.
• Manage timelines, resources, and communications to ensure successful outcomes.
• Build internal code, no-code, or AI-powered tools and automations for feedback intake, issue taxonomies, release notes, and other operational workflows.
• Contribute to building and scaling the Product Operations function by codifying best practices, raising quality standards, and mentoring peers.

Requirements

• Deep experience in Product Operations at one or more scaling technology companies.
• Experience working closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional partners on central systems such as launch calendars and launch readiness.
• Experience bringing products to market through beta programs and launch activities.
• Regular use of agentic AI tools to increase productivity, such as Dots or Codex.
• Entrepreneurial spirit, bias for action, high agency, and the ability to ship initial versions quickly and iterate toward quality at scale.
• Ability to build systems and tools using code, no-code platforms, or AI.
• Ability to self-prioritize and context-switch across multiple projects and stakeholders.
• Clear and persuasive written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
• Curiosity about the rapidly evolving AI and agentic-systems landscape.
• Understanding of the technical nuances of LLM-powered agents, including tool use, evaluations, telemetry, and safety constraints.
• Ability to establish effective processes while balancing operational flexibility and bureaucracy.
• Ability to nurture a fun, inclusive, high-ownership team culture.

Technologies and Skills

• OpenAI tools and APIs, including ChatGPT, Codex, text generation, structured outputs, and function calling.
• Python and JavaScript for automation scripts.
• Airtable, Retool, Zapier, or equivalent no-code and low-code platforms.
• SQL, Google Sheets automations, Databricks, and other data analysis or visualization tools.
• Git and GitHub.
• Terminal and command-line interface proficiency.
