Details

Anthropic's Safeguards organization builds the policies, evaluations, detection systems, and enforcement systems that define and hold the limits on how Claude can be used. Within Safeguards, the Policy Design, Enforcement, and Threat Intelligence teams work together to define allowed use, detect and act on violations, and investigate sophisticated misuse and emerging threats.

The Program Manager will coordinate work across these teams and with model training, detection systems, product launches, legal review, and external communications. The role includes managing the operating rhythm, launch and release readiness, and processes for external communications such as blog posts, threat reports, and other publications. Some work may involve exposure to explicit sexual, violent, or psychologically disturbing content and may require late nights or weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Own cross-functional program management for the Policy Design, Enforcement, and Threat Intelligence teams, keeping workstreams across harm areas on track and visible to leadership.
  • Run quarterly planning, priority setting, status tracking, and decision records documenting who made decisions and why.
  • Coordinate policy work with research, product, engineering, legal, and communications teams.
  • Drive readiness for policy, enforcement, and threat intelligence work related to model launches and product releases, including timelines, reviews, and sign-offs.
  • Own the process for external publications, including blog posts and threat reports, from ideation through drafting, review, approvals, and publication.
  • Identify risks, blockers, and resourcing gaps across the portfolio and escalate them with proposed paths forward.
  • Build lightweight processes and tools to improve team efficiency and retire processes that no longer provide value.

Requirements

  • Experience running cross-functional programs in a fast-moving technical environment, with a track record of shipping on time across teams you do not manage.
  • Ability to structure ambiguous work by breaking goals into plans, owners, and milestones and keeping them current as priorities change.
  • Strong written communication skills, including status updates, decision records, and summaries for executive audiences.
  • Experience managing review and approval processes with multiple stakeholders, such as publications, launches, or policy releases.
  • Good judgment about when a process is helpful versus unnecessary overhead, with a preference for lightweight processes.
  • Comfort working on sensitive topics and maintaining high standards of confidentiality.
  • Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Program management experience in trust and safety, product policy, enforcement operations, threat intelligence, or AI safety.
  • Familiarity with how AI models are developed and launched, and how policy, enforcement, and threat intelligence contribute to that cycle.
  • Experience coordinating external publications, research releases, or public communications.
  • Experience using AI tools, including agentic tools, to automate tracking, reporting, and other recurring program work.

Benefits

Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration.
