Details

Saily is looking for a senior backend engineer to build product features used by millions of travelers across more than 200 destinations. The role involves end-to-end product ownership, from shaping ideas with Product and Design through shipping, measuring, and iterating in production. Saily follows an AI-native product engineering approach in which engineers use AI agents to maximize their impact while maintaining ownership of customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own product features end-to-end, from idea development with Product and Design through shipping, measurement, and iteration.
  • Build features supporting multi-dimensional personalization, A/B experimentation, and analytics.
  • Make technical decisions with a product-focused perspective.
  • Develop and maintain a high-quality, high-performance codebase in Go.
  • Mentor colleagues and improve engineering best practices.
  • Influence team vision and long-term goals.
  • Run R&D spikes when the path forward is unclear.
  • Collaborate across engineering, product, and design in a cross-functional team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend development experience.
  • Strong experience with Python, PHP, Ruby, or similar, and readiness to work with Go daily.
  • Experience in a product company, ideally a startup or scale-up.
  • B2C experience is strongly preferred.
  • Solid system design skills and the ability to select appropriate patterns.
  • Experience with SQL databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with NoSQL solutions such as Redis and Cassandra.
  • Experience with Kafka or similar event-driven systems.
  • Passion for building simple, easy-to-use APIs.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to rethink and redesign ideas toward shared success.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building a personal product, startup, indie app, or side project used by real users.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and microservice architecture.
  • A track record of shipping experiments, testing hypotheses, and measuring impact.
  • Comfort working with AI-native tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Cursor.
