Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend

Grafana Labs is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads. The role owns team performance, delivery, customer outcomes, technical direction, and engineering productivity across a globally distributed organisation.

Responsibilities

• Manage two distributed engineering squads, setting expectations, delegating effectively, coaching team members, providing feedback, addressing performance gaps, and building a culture of trust and accountability.
• Own hiring and team planning across both squads.
• Lead discovery with customers, community members, and internal users to shape roadmaps and priorities.
• Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and make trade-offs.
• Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement, including milestones, risk management, and delivery commitments.
• Use AI in management work to synthesise research and feedback, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting.
• Lead adoption of AI and automation across engineering and operational workflows.
• Set engineering direction for frontend foundations, including developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities.
• Set engineering direction for navigation, search, resource organisation, and AI-assisted discovery.
• Establish engineering standards for quality, security, operability, and the validation of AI-assisted work.
• Lead improvements across Grafana and R&D that increase engineering productivity and business outcomes.
• Participate in the engineering management on-call rota, coordinate incident responses, and reduce recurring disruption.
• Use Grafana’s AI capabilities for observability, incident investigation, and management, applying that experience to product feedback and roadmap decisions.

Requirements

• Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders.
• Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, with the ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and shape architectural decisions.
• Experience turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results.
• Strong product and customer judgement, connecting engineering investments to user, developer, and business outcomes.
• Clear, concise written communication and the ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organisation.
• Appreciation for open-source development and the ability to balance Cloud-first delivery with the needs of customers, community members, and internal teams.
• Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams in their adoption.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems.
• Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions.
• Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products.
• Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations.
• Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product.

Compensation and Benefits

• United Kingdom base compensation range: GBP 117,949–GBP 141,539 per year.
