Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to join the DataViz squad within the Grafana Frontend group. This fully remote role focuses on building and evolving Grafana visualizations that help users understand and extract insights from their data.

The position is remote and open to candidates in the United States and Canada, specifically in the EST or CST time zones.

Responsibilities

Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout, including gathering user feedback and measuring the impact of shipped work.
Mentor and collaborate with other engineers through code reviews, design feedback, pairing on complex problems, and technical leadership.
Participate in on-call rotations for the services you help build.
Contribute to incident response and post-incident learning.
Provide technical support during customer escalations and identify areas of user friction.
Collaborate across squads by writing design proposals, running demos, representing the team's work, and contributing to roadmap discussions.
Use modern AI coding assistants for prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups within security guidelines and with strong code review standards.

Requirements

Experience providing technical leadership, leading teams through projects, mentoring engineers, and acting as a force multiplier.
Clear communication skills for a fully remote and asynchronous environment.
Experience operating software in production, participating in on-call rotations, supporting software, ensuring reliability, and responding to incidents.
Ability to build production software systems and solve complex engineering problems with minimal supervision.
A pragmatic, user-focused approach based on short feedback loops: analyze, design, deliver an MVP, learn, and iterate.
Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks, with a focus on practical, high-quality solutions.
Interest in Grafana's user and contributor community.
Experience with TypeScript, React, and visualization libraries such as uPlot or eCharts is relevant to the team's primary technology stack.

Bonus Points

Open-source contribution or maintainership experience.
Experience engaging with an open-source community.
Interest in observability, including metrics, logs, and traces.
Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, or other observability platforms.
Experience using Grafana or related observability tools on call or in a home laboratory.

Compensation and Benefits

United States compensation range: $174,986–$209,983 USD per year.
