Details

Grafana Labs is a remote company behind Grafana Cloud, an observability platform built on open source and open standards. The Frontend group shapes Grafana’s user experience, including dashboards, visualisation, navigation, search and sharing, as well as the foundations supporting engineering teams and community contributors.

As Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads, owning their performance, delivery and customer outcomes. You will develop senior engineers, partner with Product and Design, and improve team practices through AI and automation. The role uses cloud-first rollout and experimentation to deliver improvements across open-source and enterprise products.

Responsibilities

Manage the performance of two distributed engineering squads by setting expectations, delegating effectively, coaching team members, providing feedback and addressing performance gaps.
Own hiring and team planning across both squads, aligning team capacity and skills with product priorities.
Lead discovery with customers, community members and internal users, using feedback, research and usage evidence to shape roadmaps.
Partner with Product, Design and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies and make trade-offs.
Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement, including milestones, risk management and intervention when commitments are at risk.
Use AI to synthesise research and feedback, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting.
Improve planning, decision-making and delivery practices, and lead the adoption of AI and automation across engineering and operational workflows.
Set engineering direction for frontend foundations, including developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability and multitenant capabilities.
Set engineering direction for navigation, search and resource organisation, including AI-assisted discovery.
Uphold standards for quality, security and operability, including evaluation and validation of AI-assisted work.
Lead improvements across Grafana and R&D that increase engineering productivity and improve business outcomes.
Participate in the engineering management on-call rota, coordinate responses and reduce recurring disruption.
Use Grafana’s AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation, applying that experience to product feedback and roadmap decisions.

Requirements

Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams and developing technical leaders.
Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, with the ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and shape architectural decisions.
Experience turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results while managing delivery risks and operational demands.
Strong product and customer judgment, connecting engineering investments to user, developer and business outcomes.
Clear, concise written communication and the ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organisation.
Appreciation for open-source development and the ability to balance cloud-first delivery with the needs of customers, community members and internal teams.
Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams in their adoption.

Bonus Qualifications

Experience with React, TypeScript or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems.
Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions.
Experience with navigation, search, information architecture or resource-management products.
Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations.
Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation in Germany: EUR 124,571–149,485 per year.
