Tag name is followed by "@" symbol and proficiency level value.
About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
The Cloud Native Compute Services Platform team owns an ecosystem of shared components and services used to build managed, multi-tenant platforms on Kubernetes. These Managed Compute components provide the foundation for self-service platforms such as the Data Science Platform for AI workloads, Spark, Streaming with Flink, Workflows with Argo, and Bloomberg's Platform as a Service.
The infrastructure is built in Go, runs on Kubernetes, and supports tenant environment setup, authentication and access control, resource deployment, and a consistent user experience through shared cloud-native infrastructure design patterns.
The services are built entirely on open-source technologies, including Kubernetes, Karmada, Docker, Istio, and OPA Agent. The team builds cloud-native solutions that power runtime platforms collectively known as the Bloomberg Data Science Platform and contributes to open source. The role involves collaborating with engineers across Cloud Native Compute Systems and AI organizations to build resilient, highly available infrastructure and seamless full-stack solutions.
Responsibilities
- Implement infrastructure features using Go, Kubernetes services, and other open-source technologies.
- Iterate quickly as the product grows.
- Collaborate extensively with other engineering teams and the CTO office.
- Foster a technically outstanding, welcoming, and collaborative working environment.
- Treat security and automation as first-class features.
- Build and scale infrastructure across Kubernetes APIs, resource management, security, and observability.
Recent and Upcoming Projects
- Managed Karmada multi-cluster orchestration and federation for CNCS runtimes based on CNCF Karmada.
- A unified user interface for Cloud Native Compute Services runtimes, including BPaaS, Stateless BAS, HTTP containers, SPaaS with Apache Flink, Workflows with Argo, Spark, and the Data Science Platform. The UI will enable thousands of users to onboard, configure, deploy, operate, and debug applications across CNCS runtimes.
- A Platform Capabilities API providing discovery into user capabilities in Kubernetes compute runtime environments.
- BDGT integration and a self-service UI for allocating quota into Kubernetes runtime clusters.
- A Platform Resource Metrics API providing insights into the current capacity and usage of runtime cloud environments.
Requirements
- Four or more years of experience working with an object-oriented programming language such as Go, C++, Python, or Java.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar field, or equivalent work experience.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders, customers, and users and discuss ideas and solutions clearly.
- Self-motivation to identify problems and provide solutions independently.
- Curiosity about how things work and a desire to continuously learn, improve, and share knowledge.
- Experience operating infrastructure in production.
- Hands-on software engineering or site reliability engineering experience.
- A strong desire to learn and build infrastructure in a cloud-native environment using Golang and the Kubernetes ecosystem.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building and scaling container-based systems using Kubernetes.
- Passion for providing reliable and scalable enterprise-wide infrastructure.
- Experience with authentication and identity and access management.
- Experience building and operating Software as a Service or Platform as a Service products.
