Details
As a Staff Backend Software Engineer, Agent Platform, you will join the team supporting SentinelOne's Endpoint Protection product, which secures tens of millions of Windows, Linux, and macOS devices worldwide and processes billions of security events every day. You will provide SaaS platform capabilities, including high-throughput, highly available services for policy, configuration, and command distribution to millions of agents globally. You will collaborate with agent detection, agent health, and core platform teams to turn new protection ideas into robust, operable capabilities at scale.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, low-latency applications capable of handling several million events per second.
- Translate business and functional requirements into robust, scalable, and operable solutions that fit within the overall data architecture.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across SentinelOne to understand business requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
- Maintain application stability and data integrity by monitoring key metrics and improving the codebase.
- Understand and maintain the existing codebase through regular refactoring, fixes, and feature development.
- Learn and apply new technologies to address high-volume data challenges.
- Build the agent platform protocol for SentinelOne teams to develop and safely ship new security and detection capabilities.
- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and observability of the agent fleet in production, providing customers and internal teams with real-time insight into fleet health and coverage.
- Develop backend components primarily in Java, with Go and Python also used in the backend environment.
- Facilitate communication between microservices using gRPC, REST, GraphQL APIs, and Kafka according to specific requirements.
- Use Redis, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, ClickHouse, and SentinelOne's columnar time-series database for efficient event storage and retrieval at scale.
- Deploy services across multiple AWS and GCP regions using Kubernetes.
- Use Docker, GitHub, ArgoCD, and modern AI-powered tools for research and development and other tasks.
Requirements
- Eight years of professional backend development experience in Java, preferably, and/or Golang; Python experience is a plus.
- Ability to quickly understand new products and their inner workings.
- Self-driven approach as an individual contributor.
- Experience designing large-scale, high-load distributed systems and optimizing their performance.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, and/or other cloud platforms.
- Experience with Docker, Helm, and Kubernetes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with Product, Technical Account Managers, and other cross-functional teams.
- Ability to influence technical direction and mentor others.
- Experience with Kafka, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
- Experience in an enterprise SaaS or cybersecurity software company is highly preferred.
