Details

Coinbase's Data Platform team builds and operates systems that centralize internal and third-party data for analytics, machine learning, and end-user experiences. This role focuses on building SDKs, self-service applications, and abstractions that enable analysts, data scientists, and data engineers to operate pipelines and analyses without needing to understand the underlying infrastructure.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and delivery of blockchain network infrastructure that abstracts blockchain complexity into reliable platform APIs.
  • Lead multi-quarter initiatives, including new chain integrations, re-architecture efforts, and data migrations that improve system latency, reliability, and cost.
  • Define and maintain APIs, service-level objectives, and observability for the systems you build, including on-call ownership.
  • Partner with product and platform teams to establish data contracts and ship SDKs and platform primitives that drive adoption across Coinbase.
  • Build deep technical context across multiple blockchain protocols, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, and apply that knowledge to simplify cross-chain operations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production services in a service-oriented architecture.
  • Proven experience designing, scaling, and maintaining distributed systems handling high-throughput, low-latency workloads.
  • Hands-on experience with at least two of the following or similar infrastructure technologies: Golang, Kafka, Redis, and MongoDB.
  • Direct experience with blockchain protocols or crypto infrastructure, such as integrating with Ethereum, Bitcoin, or similar Layer 1 or Layer 2 networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to decompose complex systems, including monoliths and legacy architectures, into well-bounded microservices with clear API contracts.
  • Ability to use generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

The annual base salary range is $186,065–$218,900 USD, excluding equity and bonus. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
