Details

Coinbase's Blockchain Data Platform team within the Platform organization builds an ultra-low-latency indexing platform that ingests, normalizes, and serves data across major blockchains. The platform powers teams across Coinbase and external developers through the Coinbase Developer Platform. This is a small, high-impact, AI-native team taking a platform-first approach to blockchain indexing. You will build and operate distributed systems at the core of the platform, owning services end-to-end from design through production.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate distributed systems for real-time blockchain data ingestion, indexing, and querying, owning services end-to-end from design documents and data modeling through code, rollout, and observability.
  • Own delivery of key initiatives such as new chain integrations, migrations, and backfills, driving improvements to latency, reliability, and cost.
  • Partner with product and platform teams to define data contracts and contribute to SDKs and primitives that drive adoption across Coinbase and external developers.
  • Execute architecture and performance improvements across the indexing stack, applying systems design fundamentals involving partitioning, consistency, stream processing, and storage boundaries.
  • Support engineering quality through code reviews, testing rigor, and responsible use of AI tools to ship faster and reduce operational burden.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of software engineering experience building and operating distributed or data systems in production.
  • Solid systems design fundamentals, including partitioning, consistency and availability tradeoffs, stream processing, and storage and compute boundaries.
  • Proficiency in a backend language such as Go and/or Python.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Kafka, gRPC, Redis, S3, ClickHouse, or MongoDB.
  • Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear designs and shipped solutions with measurable impact.
  • Blockchain or crypto data experience is a plus, including familiarity with chain data structures, finality, reorganizations, RPC nodes, or wallets.
  • Ability to use generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight while delivering business-ready outputs and measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

The annual base salary range, excluding equity and bonus, is $152,405–$179,300 USD. Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, as well as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.

Candidates may submit a maximum of three applications within a six-month period. Coinbase is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Reasonable accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities.
