Details
NVIDIA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Cumulus Linux team. The team develops the network operating system that powers accelerated, disaggregated, and software-defined data centers for AI and high-performance computing. This role is part of the software development team responsible for core platform services and Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability features for Cumulus Linux, the Debian-based operating system for NVIDIA's Ethernet switches.
The role is based in Santa Clara and requires working in the office two or three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop software for the Cumulus Linux operating system, which runs on NVIDIA's portfolio of data center switches.
- Bring up Cumulus Linux on next-generation NVIDIA switches.
- Develop and maintain operating system software in Python, C, and Shell.
- Collaborate with product, architecture, and engineering teams to deliver features on the Cumulus Linux roadmap.
- Debug and resolve issues reported by testing and customer-facing teams.
- Work with open-source software included in the operating system and fix issues as they arise.
Requirements
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; or a bachelor's degree with equivalent experience.
- At least 6 years of proven experience writing enterprise software.
- Strong C and Python coding skills.
- Experience with I2C, PSUs, SMBus, PHY/Layer 1 technologies, and data center switch bring-ups.
- Good knowledge of Linux systems administration, Linux internals, and Linux tools.
- Experience with source code management, code coverage, unit testing, and debugging tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background in Linux systems and Linux kernel networking.
- Strong background debugging kernel and hardware issues.
- Familiarity with data center networking technologies.
- Exposure to CI/CD tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively.

The base salary range is USD 184,000–287,500 for Level 4 and USD 224,000–356,500 for Level 5.
