Details

Reddit's Web Platform team develops the Shreddit platform, which powers reddit.com. The team focuses on platform-wide architecture, performance optimization, operational health, and improving the web developer experience for one of the internet's most trafficked sites. This role is remote friendly within the United States.

The engineer will turn ambiguous platform problems into clear designs and deliver high-quality, observable, well-tested solutions. Key initiatives include optimizing Shreddit's global performance, evolving HTML rendering, improving web infrastructure resiliency and scale, and enhancing developer experience through AI tooling, automated workflows, and streamlined CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

Design and evolve the Shreddit web platform's architecture, performance, and developer tooling for reddit.com.
Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, cross-service initiatives involving asset delivery, HTML processing, observability, and reliability for core web experiences.
Trace, profile, and tune network calls, rendering, and data access paths while monitoring and reporting operational health.
Maintain high quality standards through code reviews, design document evaluations, and constructive feedback on product specifications and UI mocks.
Establish developer workflows and champion engineering best practices.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and promote technical excellence across the team.
Implement AI workflows and tooling to support and accelerate web development, optimization, and debugging.

Requirements

Strong proficiency with modern web technologies, including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
Proven ability to translate complex problems into performant, scalable, safe, responsive, production-grade applications.
Experience with performance tracing, profiling, tuning, monitoring, and operational health reporting.
Experience designing, building, and maintaining robust APIs using protocols such as REST, GraphQL, gRPC, HTTP, or Thrift.
Experience implementing AI workflows and tooling for web development, optimization, and debugging.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Curiosity about emerging technologies, modern industry trends, standards, and performance optimization.

Compensation

The base salary range is $190,800–$267,100 USD per year. Final offer amounts depend on factors including skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses or credentials.
