About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
With Codex, OpenAI is building an AI software engineer that people can pair with, delegate to, or ask to take on future tasks proactively. The Codex team brings together research, engineering, design, product, and infrastructure to build and deploy AI systems that write code, reason about software, and act as intelligent agents.
Codex Enterprise builds ecosystem building blocks, discovery surfaces, and enterprise capabilities that help Codex scale across developers, teams, and organizations. The team works across the stack to deliver product experiences and platform capabilities for customers ranging from individual developers and small teams to large enterprises.
You will work with internal teams and external customers to make Codex deployable, operable, and trustworthy in demanding real-world environments. You will work directly with design-partner customers, using their deployments to identify opportunities and build scalable product, infrastructure, deployment, and ecosystem capabilities. This role owns systems end to end, from architecture and implementation through production operations, with a strong focus on quality and velocity.
Responsibilities
- Shape the evolution of Codex by identifying how teams use and break AI-powered software engineering, and drive improvements across product, infrastructure, ecosystem surfaces, and model behavior.
- Build core ecosystem, team, and enterprise primitives, including plugins, skills, hooks, discovery surfaces, RBAC, administration and audit surfaces, usage controls, rate limits, pricing controls, managed configuration and constraints, and analytics.
- Design and own secure, observable, full-stack systems for Codex across web, IDEs, CLI, and CI/CD.
- Integrate with enterprise identity and governance systems, including SSO, SAML, OIDC, SCIM, and policy enforcement.
- Build performant, compliant, and trustworthy data-access patterns.
- Work with customers, the Forward Deployed team, and the Go To Market team to support deployments and launches.
- Use live usage and operational signals to iterate rapidly and turn real-world feedback into scalable product, platform, and ecosystem improvements.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience turning ideas into production systems.
- A holistic approach to speed, performance, reliability, and user experience.
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages, such as Python, Go, or Rust.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, reliability, observability, and security.
- Experience building cross-cutting platform capabilities across services, APIs, end-user product surfaces, and extensibility systems.
- Experience with enterprise foundations such as identity and access management, SAML/OIDC, SCIM, RBAC, audit and compliance logging, policy enforcement, and data governance controls.
- Ability to work directly with users and customers or alongside go-to-market and solutions teams.
- Ability to translate diverse requirements into scalable, opinionated implementations.
- Comfort working in zero-to-one environments, navigating ambiguity, and making technical trade-offs with strong product judgment.
