About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial for users and society. The team includes researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the Role
As of May 2026, Claude authored more than 80% of the code Anthropic merges. Platform Acceleration builds internal tools that help Anthropic’s product engineers—who own the Claude API, SDKs, and the rest of the Claude Platform—determine whether code changes are correct and safe to ship.
The team operates like a small product team whose customers are other Anthropic engineers. The company is seeking Staff+ engineers with backend and infrastructure experience who care about developer experience and have built tools that other engineers rely on. Preference is given to candidates who can work from the San Francisco office, with consideration for candidates based in Seattle.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy and roadmap for your area, ensuring its hardest problems are solved directly or through others.
- Design, build, and operate tools that help Platform teams ship code faster.
- Define what it takes to trust a change, including changes written by Claude, and build tooling that enforces that standard before and after merge.
- Build agents that handle repetitive engineering work, such as diagnosing failures, fixing broken tests, and running migrations.
- Work with partner teams to identify sources of friction, validate solutions, and turn fixes into products that other teams can adopt.
- Measure developer experience and adoption, using data to decide what to build next.
- Build new tools and improve shared systems as priorities change.
Requirements
- Experience building and operating large-scale backend services or distributed systems in production.
- Proficiency in Go, Python, Rust, or TypeScript.
- Deep experience with developer tooling, CI/CD, test infrastructure, or deployment systems.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and container orchestration.
- Experience leading large, complex technical projects across teams, from ambiguous problem definition through adoption of a working tool.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including experience supporting internal partner teams.
- Interest in Anthropic’s mission of building safe, beneficial AI systems.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A field of study relevant to the role, as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience at a startup or similarly small team, taking a product from zero to one and speaking directly with users.
- Substantial experience building agents that perform engineering or other technical work.
- Experience building widely adopted CLI tools, developer-facing services, GitHub automation, or open-source developer tools.
- Expertise in progressive delivery, observability, VM orchestration, sandboxed execution, or workflow orchestration.
- Experience working in a large monorepo.
- Enough full-stack ability to create a usable interface for tools.
- A point of view on how software engineering changes as agents write more code.
Compensation
The annual salary range is $405,000–$485,000 USD.
Logistics
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with no stated deadline. The location-based hybrid policy expects staff to be in one of the company’s offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more time in the office. Anthropic sponsors visas and makes reasonable efforts to obtain visas for candidates when an offer is made, with support from an immigration lawyer.
Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and an office space for collaboration.
