Stripe builds programmable financial infrastructure, including reliable APIs, financial infrastructure, and risk and fraud systems used by businesses globally.

The role is intended for ambitious builders who enjoy solving difficult problems, working with urgency, and creating software that can have a broad impact. Engineers are expected to be rigorous thinkers, adaptable problem solvers, and effective collaborators.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy software that supports Stripe's financial infrastructure and products.
  • Solve complex technical problems and learn unfamiliar systems through independent research and mentorship.
  • Collaborate on multi-person coding projects and contribute to larger initiatives alongside peers.
  • Communicate work clearly to stakeholders, team members, and other Stripe employees.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate development while applying critical thinking and professional judgment to review, refine, and validate outputs.
  • Potentially lead small projects independently and contribute to code reviews and safe production updates.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a directly related field obtained by summer 2027, or equivalent work experience.
  • New graduate candidates must have no more than 18 months of professional experience, excluding internships.
  • Programming experience through side projects or coursework. Stripe primarily works with Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Scala, and Go; strong fundamentals and general programming knowledge are valued.
  • Experience from internships or collaborative coding projects in a university or professional setting.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and work with mentors or subject matter experts.
  • Clear written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized knowledge in an area such as frontend, backend, infrastructure, or another technology, combined with broad technical knowledge.
  • Experience with code review practices and safely updating production systems.
  • Familiarity with navigating and managing large codebases.
  • Experience independently leading small projects and contributing to larger projects with peers.
  • Ability to navigate complex technical obstacles independently and recognize when to seek help.
